Does anyone mind explaining to me why some of the best series like JR and Super Lovers have like almost no artwork at all?

Like I seriously don't understand why there is almost no visible interest from anyone?
>>
>>3085747
It's because they're bad.
>>
>>3085751
Shots fired and beside that not being an argument would you explain to me why they aren't good from an artowork or character perspective in your opinion?

People seem to enjoy sexualizing other animes like HxH and Eva and so on but when something comes around that offers actual romance there is suddenly zero interest for artwork?

not that dude, but
>when something comes around that offers actual romance there is suddenly zero interest for artwork?
sort of? fujos love speculation. in a shounen ai/yaoi anime, they might enjoy it, but because the characters are shown already kissing on screen (for example), they may feel less of a drive to draw art of it. best thing i could compare it to is why porn of a hentai might be less common than porn of something completely sfw

aside from that, i don't think anyone's primary reason for wanting to watch something is "holy shit it has GAYS". it's more common to have a show that is genuinely good, and have some of the fanbase be shippers who watched the show because they liked the premise, and not because they wanted to see two characters fuck

lastly, two important things: the fanbase for these shows are usually pretty small because they're so niche, and... you said it being bad wasn't an argument, but i watched a few episodes of junjou romantica and it didn't really hold my interest. but that's fine, it's just not my thing

sorry for the wall of text or if that sounded rude, here's something from pixiv to keep it on topic

Well, once again it makes me feel like I'll never understand some womens logic when it comes to these things. Personally I feel emotional attachment to my favorite characters and their personality traits. Artwork just extends on those desires to enjoy them in poses or settings the show/manga doesn't feature.

Regarding popularity: Yes, that's true when compared to popular genres. I can even understand when people like you say they just don't like Studio Deen stuff, but for what it is, it's fairly popular with still a few million people watching it - ofc they're mainly consumers not content creators. Still makes me kind of sad that even though these shows are successful that I feel p. much alone when they're not represented on a board like this one.
>>
>>3085747
It may be because the characters are shallow, the situations are horribly contrived, the original artwork is cringe, cringe, CRINGE worthy (Junjou is godawfully drawn) and there is little to hold one's interest.

>>3085759
That's because Eva and HxH have characters that one can actually get attached to as opposed to annoying, weepy uke and rapist seme. The slash part is only one factor of enjoying those shows.

I actually do enjoy canon BL but Nakamura is the bottom of the barrel.

>Personally I feel emotional attachment to my favorite characters and their personality traits.
In the case of Nakamura's work, could you run your favorite characters through the Plinkett Test (with the added factor of not referencing their relationships or feelings for another character, since it is in the romance genre after all)?
I'm not trying to antagonize you I'm genuinely curious because I watched JR and SH (including the movie) in good faith and wanting to like them but got almost nothing out of the characters besides very vague and predictable archetypes.

Regarding the artwork, let us marvel at how bad it can get. Behold this image, in particular the hands. That's beyond amateurish, it's downright insanely bad.
>>
>>3085759
The art is bad, the story is bad, the characters are bad. I don't know how so much of this woman's work has been adapted for anime because it is, quite frankly, rape-flavoured garbage that paints itself as romantic, with awful seme-uke dynamics and shitty character interactions that stem from an overabundance of miscommunication that could be solved if they would just talk to each other about their problems instead of jumping to conclusions at every possible opportunity.

There's a reason the shounen ai/bl genre of anime as a whole sucks and has stagnated, and it's because shit series like this keep getting adapted.

I will try to summarize it a little since all replies agree on mostly the same points of criticism.

Original artwork is cringe indeed. I'm also no fan of long yaoi hands... the anime adaption isn't as bad though as the manga art stylization. Personally I wouldn't agree on all the characters being shallow. I will get to this a bit later. Situations are contrieved, most of the premise is and it's spiced up with humor and feeling embarrassed on behalf of someone else, keeping relationships secret from other protagonists is part of this premise what another Anon described as miscommunication (which is true to some extend).

EVA is not understood by the majority of the audience, feeling sad and pity Shinji or hot Kawaru is easy and comes natural. On the behalf of HxH it's about the mutual friendship between two innocent boys (also with rapey Hisoka and Illumi). Nothing wrong with finding that appealing.

>>3085818
Coming back to character depth let's take Usagi as an example: While growing up wealthy he felt always lonely, little to no friends at times and emotionally distant personality to other people while having no interest to take over the family business. Developed no skills other than writing. He lives an isolated lifestyle that he can barely maintain because he lacks the drive to do basic necessities if not taken care of by others. Underneath his cold exterior he's a broken man that only craves for someones love. Years of relinquishment and yearning for his childhood love made him the "rape-flavoured garbage" character that's ready to act out his perverted fantasies - while the bottom line is that he's so deeply hurt and posessive that the thought of him getting abandoned by the ones he truly loves makes him yealous and overprotective but yet again he's sincere and pushes to get aknowledged, ready to give up whatever it takes to not get abandoned again.

Because it's shit desu.
I think you'll enjoy Ten Count, at least the art is good.

Unfortunately, you are much more articulate than the manga is.
Anyone who upon meeting someone immediately jumps to sexual assault needs some serious therapy but JR treats it as slapstick and funny.

I happen to really love Caste Heaven and it is extremely twisted with rape galore. But it knows as much and the disturbing content is shown to have deep, deep repercussions on the victim.
In JR, being routinely raped is just not all that bad and Usami's absolutely appaling behavior is at least implicitly justified by the narrative.

I actually enjoy the secondary couple with the lit teacher and the doctor and wish they were the one with their own spinoff.

I'm pretty sure that ''seme who's a rapist because he's actually broken and lonely'' is one of BL's oldest and most shallow archetypes, anon.
Also, as the other poster also pointed out, his character would have been much better if his attitude was taken as seriously as it would be in a real life scenario.

(Anyways, despite hating every other Junjou couple I actually quite enjoyed Egoist.)

Am I the only one who was disappointed with Super Lovers? I read Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike when I was younger, so I had high hopes for a BL by Abe Miyuki; yet I was thoroughly disappointing. Hiro had a very underdeveloped personality, and frankly was quite uninteresting. Ren's personality grew little, but when i did, it took a turn for either pervert or whiny brat.
I found my rather bored at certain parts of the manga, and overall, the manga lacked drama. No one. NO ONE objected to two brothers fucking each other. I know they're not blood related, but still. Come on. This is stating to get ridiculous.
>>
If you replaced the "uke" with a girl, it'd be just another otomeshit.
Which begs the question: why even make it a guy in the first place? The "forbidden love" flavour?
>>
>>3085747

The million-dollar question kek
>>
>>3085759
But Eva is literally all about sex in the end. Hence all the vaginas being pierced by giant rods.
>>
>>3085751
holy shit look someone that says that junjou is bad I've never seen that comment ohhhhhhh go back to tumblr retard.
>>
>>3085789
Junjou romantica is good is just that some sjws on tumblr got around to manipulare some women and boom they all think junjou is bad now because ''the narrathive''
Look at junjou first episode,A guy meets his brother's friend, the friend of his brother has to become the new tutor of the guy,the guy is hesitant because he finds him weird but however he goes along with it,goes to his house one day and find that his brother's friend has been writing porn gay fiction about his brother, freaks out (I mean everyone would freak if someone was writing porn about your family member) and breaks into the guy's room, calls him a homo things get a bit upset and in the end he throws him on the bed jerking him off.
Misaki accepts it and then talks to the guy, they decide from now on to get along for his brother.
So it passes time and they get closer and closer but the guy always thinks about his brother.Brother's birthday arrives, they make a party for him, brother pulls off news that he has a wife and tells the guy that loved him that he wanted him to know first.
Misaki gets emotional and frustrated and gets out Usami follows him,one thing or another they end up talking having a emtotional conversation and in the end they kiss.
This episode always destroyes me,and trust I am used to be pretty cynical.
Fact is ,people use the ''art'' shit as an excuse, ''MUH IT SHOULND'T EVEN HAD SELL WTF >;((('' Yeah bitch but it did.
Like I don't get why would go around autistic screeching about the art when basically every 80s generations manga artist used to bad anatomy? Like back then the focus was on the ''cartonish style'' not the ''realism'' you dumb fucks.
One piece for example earlier pieces have a shit anatomy.
Sailor moon too.
I do love nice drawing but most of the time I didn't watch the hands? till someone actually pointed that out to me? Like I don't know about you guys but I always watch the facial expression of the characters so I am invested in that.
>>
>>3085957
Imagine being on 4chan and getting triggered over rape in manga.
So your argument is basically ''muh romanticization of rape'' huh?
>>
The amount of ''basic cunt'' in here holy shit.
>>
>>3085957
And? Like what's your argument? You don't like it and???? I mean aside from ur autistic screeching here I am not hearing anything.
>>
>>3086256
''Forbidden'' if I wanted something Forbidden I would read about you fucking your mother in the ass.
No it's about guys. simple as that.
