Oh HELL YES Last Exile thread, thank you google alerts.

Going to post a few before bed, if the thread is still up through tomorrow I'll add more. Any preference for characters/pairings/etc? I've got a lot (though obviously more Dio than anything).

A lot of fanartists give him a Cicada-like growth spurt (bro is TALL) and slightly longer/fluffier hair. Which is adorable along with less stony facial expressions. Like this one.

That's how I imagine him, too. With time the Guild's hold would probably wane and he'd become less robotic and more able to express emotion.

It's really sweet how Dio flies without a navi in the sequel and won't even allow anyone to sit on Lucciola's seat.

Dio in the second series was pretty rad IMO. I understand a lot of Senpai's criticism but I think they did right by Dio and his development/involvement. So much throwback to Lucciola and how he flies his vanship alone is just, PUNCH TO THE GUT with feelings. God I can gush about these two/Dio all day, I love them so much.

I loved Dio in the sequel as well, I just wish there was more of him. It's almost frustrating how little we do see him of him and yet he completely steals the show in those short scenes.

He even gets disqualified after winning the Grand Race precisely because he refuses to take on a navi. Knowing how much that race meant to him...it says a lot about Dio's feelings for Lucciola.

I got into it shortly after the first season aired, haven't seen any extra stuff. I'm planning on reading the manga soon, it seems to explain a lot of what happened between the two seasons.

Travelers from the Hourglass is a great manga, and covers some between series things, not so much Dio stuff though sadly.

Thanks a lot! This reminds me, I was translating a Dio/Lucciola doujin but for some reason never got around to finishing it...I should still have it floating it around, could do with some help translating it.

I got the first season on DVD and it came with an Alvis figure, to this day I am sad it was not Dio instead.

No problem. THIS FANDOM IS SMALL AND SLOW so I do whatever I can to spread the love because I have endless yearning to just nerd out about it.

As for the doujin I'd love to help if I can! I have another (smutty) one I am planning to work on but it was scanlated to Russian which is a liiiiiittle tougher to do, haha. I should upload the raw in the meantime though.

Alvis has so many figures. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL especially the Senpai one, but yes. Aside from the Dio & Lucciola one from the Grand Stream figure set (which is a nice figure) I am sad there is no more for him. I'm still praying that one day they'll release a 1/8 for Senpai for him.

Yeah it's so small a fandom that I was surprised the anime got a second season at all. But it turned out to be really great.

Blurry kanji made the doujin extra hard to translate, I think I have over half of it translated already.

Fortunately Alvis is not annoying as opposed to vitually all anime little girls, which is a bonus.

Last Exile deserves more attention as it is, the world-building is really top-notch and we do not get a lot of steam punk anime as it is.

I was surprised that the sequel did away with Claus almost entirely without as much as explaining why. It's covered in the manga, I'm sure, but it struck me as odd.

I never cared much for Claus but ditching the main character, just like that, without a hint of an explanation was so strange.

It's even stranger in that they did not scrape the entire cast of the original anime. They brought back Dio and Alvis while Claus got Put On A Bus.

IN ANY CASE yeah, I wouldn't have even minded that much but they throw him in a wheelchair and then hardly bother to elaborate on it (save for one of the blu ray booklets just saying HE GOT HURT HELPING DIO GO BACK TO NORMAN) and following up with a shit mini novel that barely actually covers it.

Well more info finally came out! The movie is sadly, an omnibus. HOWEVER there are going to be 500 "reshots" (whether these are new scenes, reanimated old scenes, or a mix of both, we'll see) and new dialogue (WHICH WILL MEAN NEW SCENES YAY) so I'm still hyped.
