oh don't even bother with the old TV anime (from 1973? i believe?) it's got nothing to do with the main devilman story because it's just some kids show that was made before the manga was written and just kickstarted nagai's work on the devilman universe. plus there's not even a real translation, all the subs online are just google translated from chinese subs (pic related)
read the manga or watch the OVAs but it doesn't matter which one you do first. OVA order is technically "the birth" --> "the demon bird" --> "the apocalypse of devilman", but none of them are really connected and i think they were made more with people who were already fans of the series in mind than new fans, and the actual ending was never animated, so you'll have to read the manga to find that out
