Has anyone tried a no nightshade diet? My stomach and bowels have been in a lot of pain lately and I am wondering if a no nightshade diet could help. I've heard from some crazy "talk to trees" type folks that nighshades should be avoided. Is this in anyway true?

Yes, my tricorder readings are showing elevated levels of nightshadeophilic histamines in your upper GI tract. Being a doctor, I can confirm you are definitely going to benefit from whatever it is you are asking about.
Sincerely,
A doctor

For the stuff we eat it is the solanine that is a problem. Yes, you can have all manner of trouble from eating foods high in it, including your symptoms. Green potatoes are normally the worst offenders (since you can't really taste it and can eat a lot of it) followed by underripe black nightshade berries (since there's a lot in them, but its bitter so you don't eat much at all), and all green peppers (since there are cultivars of peppers like green bell and jalapeno that are purposely picked unripe).
Keep in mind that your problem may only be some gas and bloating. Try massaging your abdomen and see if that helps. If it does then its more than likely some hard stool and/or gas. Stuff like walking and running also have a similar effect of getting things moving and feeling better.
I think Tom Brady follows this rule. It reduces inflammation and increases recovery time, evidently.
There's no large scale scientific evidence that I've seen that suggests it's true, but some people strongly believe in it, either due to solanine or saponines or whatever.
You can give it a go if you feel like it

I really don't eat nightshades (no tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) and can't say I feel any different when i do eat them. If say I have pizza or pasta out at some place, I don't notice it the next day. Some people could be sensitive to them, most people probably aren't in any appreciable way.
