Have any of you ever worked at a fast food restaurant?
>>
Yes, first job McDonalds. I was 17 at the time and the only person drive thru and cashier since I'm the only one who can speak Spanish and English while all the Mexican moms are in the kitchen or running food.
>>
>>9403528
Plenty of line order cook jobs but no fast food. I'd assume its similar.
>heres the menu, make the menu
>>
>>9403871
cool story bro
>>
No because I'm not a pathetic retard
>>
>>9403871
>pretending to be a mexican on the internet
>>
>>9403528
Worked at wendy's. One time they made this dude's sandwich wrong 2x and he threw it at the girl in the drive thu window. she cried. i hated her. win win
>>
>>9403900
another time this woman didnt say no sauce on her chicken wrap and came back up and was all "I DEF SAID NO SAUCE WTF" and the cashier kid was all "i'm sorry but I dont remember you saying that, we can make it again for you it'll just be a sec" and she said something shitty like "so i could be eating my food now if you didn't screw it up but because of your incompetence i have to wait?" soooooooooooooo we washed the sauce off in the dish water and just threw the chicken in the deep fryer for a sec and then made another one with it. Don't be rude to people that make your food only getting minimum wage, they can find another job. Watched her eat it, asked her if it was better. She said "would have been better if it was like this the first time".
>>
>>9403915
You mean that's the kind of story you'd make up in your head when you were following your orders like a good little low pay worker bee. Bet people talked shit to you all the time and you did fucking nothing about it cos you're a pathetic little faggot. Quit lying on the internet we all know you're a beta loser

>>9403924
I dare you to throw a bitch fit after 8pm at a fast food place, night managers don't care what you do.
>>
>>9403935
Oooh I'm shaking
>>
>>9403924
You have to be 18+ to post on 4chan.
>>
It sucks being Drive Through because you have to learn how to take orders while you are cleaning, bagging orders, and restocking.
>>
>>9403871

There is something wrong with the fast food industry when fast food can't be fast food. Not every store is going to get good enough sales to allow more than 3 people working at the same time.
>>
>>9403946
How exactly does my post make me seem underage? Or are you a triggered fast food worker who by definition is retarded and you're just parroting what you've seen others post without actually understanding what it means?
>>
Never worked drive thru and glad I havent. I for one, have been drunk and cocained up so much getting food. Ive had sex in the line, pulled a knife in the line, vomitted 10 times in the line, through a half bottle which broke in a faggot check out guys face. Im lucky Ive never been arrested. I should have killed someone to push my luck. People are stupid and horrible trash most of the time.
>>
yeah worked in a shitty australian fast food place called red rooster from 15-18
really quickly gets you to the point where you can't eat chicken anymore
>>
I don't like it when a customer asks me a question about the menu because most of the time I don't know the answer. I don't like it when a customer wants to change their order or wants to give me more change after I just completed the transaction.
>>
>>9403953
Then they shouldn't be located there. And they'll close. That should be well considered or you'll hemorrhage money. Look at the long run, rather than what's in front of you. Are you a manager, or an owner?
>>
>>9403959
"Mom, check out what I said on Four Chan."
>>
>>9403959

how do you not work drive through?
>>
>>9403966

and not every store is made to handle large orders or a long line of customers. Even when there's a full staff, they might not have a big enough kitchen , separate windows for drive through, or
>>
>>9403972
Also consider fast food doesn't mean instant food. Places like McDonald's are along those lines. Should just be a bomb ass dollar menu done quick imo. People want more quality anymore though. Things take longer even if everybody is doing their job. Millennials are pushing this trend to eat out more often, and expect a certain quality. It's hard to transition for big companies like this. There are niches for most companies to go to, but they probably won't. I think Taco Bell has the best model going. Subscribe and hit the like button.
>>
It would be great if restaurants can have a grace period to restock and clean up a bit. A long line of customers incoming for 2-3 hours means no time for staff to do any maintenance.
>>
>>9403528
nah, couldn't do it and not because i feel it's beneath me, i couldn't deal with those fucking mutant customers on a daily basis
>>
Why are there so many edgelords in this thread?
>>
>>9404101

You are lucky if you can choose not to do fast food and get another job.

>>9403964
If you can't handle that then I don't know how you'd handle any kind of workplace
>>
Worked at a Krystal burgers one summer.

The first thing they train you is "Grey Goo". Grey Goo is the sign of a properly steamed hamburger, when the blood from the rare patty soaks into the bread and cooks in the bread.

I also got written up for making mini chili cheese dogs that were "too messy".
>>
I don't like it when I'm working drive through and the customer doesn't even look at me. They just extend their hand out of their car to hand me payment and get their food. Not only is it rude, but it means there's a good chance they'll drop the money/food since they aren't really looking.
>>
I don't like it when I'm working drive through and a customer asks me to throw away their trash for them .
>>
Yeah currently working at Portillo's
>>
I don't like it when I'm working drive through and the customer tells me the food he wants.
>>
>>9403947
Sounds so hard
>>
I don't like it when I'm the only person on front because that means I have to take orders from Drive Through as well as orders on front counter. That also means I have to be bagging others and making drinks for front and drive through.
>>
>>9403957
Not him but you just sound like a kid trying to be cool
>>
>>9404746

Yes. Especially when it's super busy. Sometimes you need to run to the back to get something and have to deal with taking an order and need to be able to remember an order long enough to be able to input into the register. If you stand at the drive through register just taking orders you won't get anything then. You have to learn to multitask and be able to remember a long list of orders to survive. You won't always have someone on the floor to help you collect , help you restock, or help you bag.

>Working at McDonald's over the holidays for my vidya money and to afford a new fancy kitchen appliance
>Late on a Friday in the city centre
>Aboriginal family stumble in
>Goon bags stuffed into pockets
>Coke bottle clearly used to huff glue being held by the 3 year old
>They order around $30 worth of food
>Become enraged when I ask for payment
>They start yelling
>Just a kid, too scared to react properly
>Look back for help
>The only physically large person is the manager's pet cook who is just staring at the grill, trying not to get involved
>One of the younger men in the group mounts the counter to snatch food
>He's incredibly drunk and can't manage it
>The little kids start stealing display items and trying to grab food from trays
>Suddenly the guy climbing the counter is dragged off
>Look up to see a huge guy in what seemed to be 70's costume, drag the guy by the legs
>Hear the sickening dull crack of a skull hitting the floor
>Drags the guy by his ankle and one of the others by the hair and physically flings them out onto the road
>The whole family spit and throw rubbish at him

>Asks for a frozen coke
>Have to tell him the machine is broken
>He just stares at me
>Offer him a thickshake or regular drink
>Just sighs and says no thanks, defeated
>Walks outside
>One of the Aboriginal guys bottles him

>Frozen coke guy trips one into the street
>Lands face-first into the curb and knocks himself out
>Hospitalises the other two
>Walks away, still looking really defeated about not getting his frozen coke
>>
>>9403528
First job was working at subway. It wasn't bad. All the customers liked me a lot and gave me a good amount of money ever week in tips.
>>
Yes. I worked at a Sonic Drive In.The orders come in really fast when there's nice weather. They come in all at once since there's 18 stalls and two drive thrus.

I cut my hand open and didn't notice it. I don't know how long I was bleeding but I noticed that I had bled all over the burgers I was making. My boss was a bitch and would have chewed me out in front of everyone if I threw them out. So I just wrapped them up and sent them out. I put gloves on afterward but the bleed was kind of leaking out. I was able to get to the first aid chest when business slowed down but it was completely empty.
>>
>>9404746

If there isn't 2 windows for drive through or at least 2 people for front, the person taking orders is also the same person who has to take payment while taking another for the next customer. So what happens is that a customer makes an order, drives up to drive through window, awkwardly waits for a minute or 2 for drive through person to take order for the next customer before giving payment and often has to wait an extra minute or so before getting their order because drive through is busy taking orders/making drinks instead of bagging.
>>
>>9403528
I worked at an Abry's for 4 years from 14-18 and my mom was the manager. It was fucking awesome because back in the early 2000's we got paid 10-12/hr, but we worked our ass off and everyone was a damn good worker
>>
>>9403528
No, I'd rather kill myself if it came down to that or nothing.
>>
>>9403957
your not underage probably, just a complete fucking idiot. You can't help that though anon, it's ok.
>>
>>9404708
>I don't like it when I'm working drive through and the customer doesn't even look at me.

We do that because we are scared that merely looking into a wage-cuck's eyes will make us catch "poor"
>>
I wish I could. You get money working in these places.
>>
I worked at Culver's for four years in high school. Then I worked st a pizza place for a week as a driver then quit. Both jobs sucked
>>
>>9404861
Pretty much this.

Working at a mcdonalds at 1am on a friday is my idea of hell.
>>
recently was rejected by mcdonalds. i am 23. end me.
>>
I delivered for little Caesars for about 2 years. I miss that job. I made like 50-100 a night on tips plus minimum wage. It was a franchise little Caesars so all of the toppings were fresh. We even had some extra toppings that aren't typically at most corporate little Caesars. Also.. all the young high school girls working there in leggings. I was drunk every day. I want to go back.

Yes I guess that's why I have a doctorate. Because I'm an idiot. And I never worked in a fast food restaurant. Seems legit.
>>
Yeah I got one
>Mother worked at McDonald's back in 70s-80s
>Was sent to a location to watch a film reel to show how to use a cash register
>Day after her first day on the job began
>Was lunch time on a Saturday
>Errors every few orders
>Nobody taught her how to clear an order
>Film reel never covered this aspect
>She remembered it clears if the cash drawer opens
>Put the order in but never passed it to the kitchen
>End of the day she was counting the cash with her supervisor
>She was off by 400 dollars
>Supervisor asked what the fuck happened
>She explained she has no idea how to clear an order
>They showed her how to do it
>Everything was fine for a while
>Eventually she moved to the back to make food
>Was too short to see the people through the window
>Was the best time of her life at McDonald's
>Then she caught mono and was put on leave for a while but wasn't fired
And when she came back it had gotten put under new ownership and they scheduled her to work during that time but she didn't show so they fired her, but she came in to say she got a different job and was resigning but was told she was already fired.
Only many years later she realized it was unlawful termination.

She then worked at pioneer chicken for a bit.

Every food business sucks dick as a cashier.

>>
Got my start at Burger King. Manager noticed I had a flair for going "off-menu" and promoted me to their corporate menu creation team. I worked on the Halloween Whopper. My roomate at Burger King College was the son of the guy who invented chicken sticks. The valet was daughter of the woman who invented their French Toast sticks.
>>
>>9405070
Your entire post sounds like you are 15 years old trying to be cool if you don't understand how exactly it's because you are definitely underage
>>
Fast food can either be cozy or super sucky. I would recommend taking up graveyard shift .

I worked Krystal for almost a year. Don't remember getting told about Grey Goo, but you're right. Worked pretty much every weekend night. All the club-goers asking for entire grills(24), different condiment combinations throughout, chiks. Learned real quick how to layout multiple grills simultaneously.
I never went in to work unless I was high/drunk. Favorite food to eat on the line was a double meat cheese krystal with a chik and chilli on it.
They fucked up their double krystals though. Taking out that one piece of bun in the middle is lame af for what they charge for it.

Yeah. I was a bus boy at some generic western style restaurant at Wonderland. It was terrible. So hot and disgusting. >>9404724

Tell them it's a violation of your health code for you to handle other people's trash, and that company policy won't allow it. If your restaurant/company is worth their salt, they should already have a policy like that.

Most people are pretty understanding about things like that (at least with my clientele). I had one old fucker threaten to call corporate over it years ago, but nothing ever came of it. He's probably dead now. Worms crawling in and out of every orifice of his flesh. Makes me very happy.

This. Working at a non-food retail store I quickly learned it was worth the 5s to ask "Out of <total of bills handed to me>?" If they stonewalled or suddenly decided they have change, since the item wasn't food I would tell them the transaction went through and they would have to return the item and purchase it again. it's been about ten years since I've worked their but one of the top complaints I remember was that the coffee sucked. We got to drink the shit for free and i remember it being undrinkable swill. No idea why corporate hasn't tried to improve the program.
>>
>>9403987
I work at a mid tier family owned place with 8-10 cooks on the line on any given night and even at crazy paced volume nights we still manage with wipe stations down ect for a few secs every 10 orders or so. Then once it slows down around 9-10 pm we pull our mats up and the dishies come through and do a solid sweep while we start breaking our shelves and drawers down slowly and flipping containers and wrapping/restocking. also between lunch and dinner we do a pretty darn decent sanitizing.
>>
>>9404738
Me too, anon. Are you a cook?
>>
>>9408922
Anon work is getting tight and I might be forced to take a kitchen job soon. Is it really bad at first? I've never worked in a kitchen aside from being the delivery driver for a pizza place who would sometimes help with food before a delivery was to go out, but other than that I'm completely inexperienced. My friend keeps nagging me to take it because he wants to work together, but I've always imagined kitchens to be loud and abrasive and messy and that generally doesn't sound like a good fit for me
>>
>>9408947
my big tip is don't go corporate. In any given town or city there are a few family owned places- I got into this industry with zero exp. A lot of our line guys start either in the dish or on fry bc fry is easy even when at high volume. Don't expect to be a saute guy or even making sandwiches or salads at first. Be 10 mins early to each shift, be clean, and even when you are having a shit day and everything pisses you off BE CALM and dont wear your out of work issues on your sleeve. also, a lot of places give away OT like it is candy. i work at tim horton's as a baker

i have to admit it's alright considering my usual supervisor is a guy that i've known since 5th grade so i can get away with all kinds of shit

>morning baker leaves me 20 extra boston creams because they were selling a lot
>not a single one has sold including the 5 we have out on the floor
>the store is dead as fuck and we have nothing to do
>supervisor makes a joke about "what if we just straight up put a couple in the dishwasher"
>i end up marking down 5 of them as throws then throw them into the dishwasher
>me and everyone else on shift sit there as it goes through the cycle
>we open it up after it's done running

ive worked in shitty pub/restaraunt place where i tossed the deep fried riblets in the wrong sauce and so i tossed them and started a new batch, chick i was working with got mad at me and told me i should have just washed them and re fried them and put the right sauce.

i actually cared and told her thats gross, i walked out later that night lol

i agree, kitchen pay is barely above slave labour... cooks get paid fuck all to begin with, his overtime hourly rate is more like what he should get paid all of the time. meanwhile sally server just runs plates and fills drinks and walks out on a saturday night with $350. they say its fair because cooks get hours all year while servers make alot less when it is slow, but thats bullshit, ive had plenty of my hours cut in slow season.

Hey guys I have never worked in the food service industry. I've had jobs before, and have some years/experience in a career but am currently NEET. I need beer and book money and want to be a cook, preferably at a family owned or higher-end restaurant.

I'm a wizard at putting crusts on steak and typical Southern/Mexican home dishes, and am familiar with many fine liquors and wines. Can I be a cook? Bartender mebs? I think I'd be good at it. What's important to these kinds of employers? How can I give the best impression?
>>
Worked at Whataburger for a year before moving on to IT. Loved working the bubble, which was the first window where you have to take orders, payment and occasionally prep when not in rush hour. Remember everyone hated one of the assistant managers, but she loved me for some reason. Probably because I was a "Yes, ma'am. No, ma'am," type of employee. Pretty well liked overall despite being socially autistic in any other social event. What helped me was pretending to be pretentious but make sure they know it's just an act, works pretty well in general really.

As far as working there goes there were only a few things that were memorable. Like the one customer who asked whether our biscuits were gluten free. Nobody in the store, including the manager knew the answer and told her as much and she ordered it anyways. Really, lady? I remember on a stormy night the night manager forgot to put the hood back up on his car and it was almost filled to the steering wheel. The most embarrassing thing I can remember is when taking orders at the drive through this guy had a really gravely voice that made it impossible to hear. After telling him, "I'm sorry, I can't understand you, sir." about three times they roar "I'M A WOMAN." Needless to say I sent them straight to the second window because I was not looking at whatever monstrous creature was on the other end of that line. Turns out it was a middle age black woman. Not really surprised.

Overall the work was fine though. We had one kid who worked every now and then who was actually retarded, but he was a good worker and didn't make a mess. Unlike this one guy we had who was somehow slower and less useful than the actual retard. He apparently got shot and killed which everyone was sad about. I honestly couldn't have cared, he was the worst employee I think I'd ever seen. Oh, and he was black if the whole getting shot and killed thing didn't tip you off.
>>
Is it wrong the close the dining area early when the store is understaffed so that the kitchen can focus more on drive through orders?

a fucking lot of patience. I was working part time but I did open up the place and work during the weekends when the numbers were pretty high. Honestly, the kids were the least troublesome part all things told, it was the teens and adults who were always the issue.

>>9414221
For the length of a birthdayparty. Basically you could pay for a birthday part for your kid(s) and chucke would show up and do a dance for the birthday kid and then walk around the floor to allow the other kids to say hello and usually upon request when someone would ask if chucky could show up.

The worst part is that some kinds would flip their shit at the sight of chucky and their asshole parents would do everything in their power to scare the living shit out of them by forcing them to be around chucky so it was a balance to make sure you got around to the kids who wanted to be around chucky and avoid that one kid who would bolt and jump over tables to get away least the parents file some kind of harrassement (which they tried to do sometimes by getting close on purpose).

His nephew planned some shit by mistake and got me fired for sexual harassment on a young girl. I was 16 she was younger, they lied and I got fired

My mom worked at Wendy's and she got me a job there. We never really worked at the same time thankfully. I worked there on and off from about junior year of hs until I graduated college. I would start there every summer before my internships would begin and felt kind of weird leaving them all for better jobs and eventually a degree and full time job while they all just stagnated. Most of the time I did the front register but did my fair share of drive thru and grill as well. Also opened and closed a fair bit. Lots of free nugs and various other creations. Was a bitch trying to get them to pay me anything other than minimum wage. Spent most of the money I made there on weed anyway. Was a pretty comfy job desu. Met some interesting people there. Sometimes I think it wouldn't be so bad to go back to that kind of work but there's no way to make an actual living doing that.

I agree it's stupid for someone with medical concerns to hit a fast food place, ESPECIALLY the drive-thru, where fuckups are very common.

But that said, yeah, it kind of was the store's fault. No sesame seeds means no sesame seeds. Either the person taking the order didn't pass on the request to the people packing it, or the people packing the order did a shitty job. Someone made a mistake. An expected mistake? Sure. But a mistake nonetheless.

They paid more than HEB, walmart, and I didnt think it would be that bad. Which it wasnt, except if I had to work sunday at midnight.

I still havent gotten an explanation from anyone why rednecks fill up whataburger at 12:00 every sunday night. They tried to teach me drive thru when I worked at Wendy's, have social anxiety problems so the event was a nightmare. Trying to record orders, bag, take cash while making drinks was too much. Got a job as a technician after a year of Wendy's and which nearly tripled my wage. Never had to do anything as stressful and difficult as drive thru on a busy night. Still have nightmares that I'll get fired and have to work there again. Just because the job is minimum wage didn't mean it's easy, it's absolute shit.

It seems so rude to ignore the person that pulls up to pay for their order so you can take an order for the next person who pulls up to the drive through speaker. how do you even manage to bag orders and make drinks one time when customers don't stop driving up to the speaker?

I worked a 3-11 shift at McDonald's as my first job. my store wasn't 24 hour so I"d to all the opening shit and then run drive thru for the rest of my shift. Fast forward a few years later, I nailed a supervisor position at Staples because the manager said you learn a lot of good things working at a fast-paced environment like fast food.

I'd recommend a fast food place for anyone's first job to be honest. It's incredibly easy but it puts you through the stress and frantic environment, and if you learn to keep your cool working fast food, you will be a veteran for any other customer service job. Fast food customers are more often than not absolutely retarded.
