Is this seasoned? Asking for a friend
>>
The middle patch is concerning
>>
Does it smell like the taste of blood when you heat it? If so, yeah, it's seasoned.

If there's no bare iron, then it's seasoned. Is it non-stick? That's another story. Seasoned =/= nonstick. There's a huge misunderstanding about what these words mean.

Keep it oiled when cooking, and it will be fine, but you might want to hold off on anything delicate like fish or eggs.
>>
I've never been able to cook eggs in this skillet. I regret buying one so big.

>tfw I can perfectly cook eggs in my well seasoned cast iron

Rub oil on it. Top, bottom, sides, handle, whole damn thing. Whatever you have handy should be ok, I use extra virgin olive oil. Bake the newly oiled pan in oven at 350 for 20 minutes. Turn oven off, let it set in there overnight. Next day, viola! Well seasoned cast iron pans. I do this every 3 months.

ehhhh... kinda low smoke point dontcha think?
>>
Use Crisco. It doesn't leave a flavor like other oils do. Season that bad boy up!
>>

Post picture of it. If it's a new model you generally need to surface it. The molds are so shitty that you will never get it to be properly seasoned. You can turn a 20 dollar lodge into a 200 dollar pan with 30 bucks in harbor freight tools

If it's old you're just not seasoning it properly

What my lodge looks like after surfacing. I abuse the pan with acids and metal utensils and generally don't have issues with sticking.
>>
>>9404423
If any oil leaves a "Flavor" you're doing the seasoning process wrong. Either the temp is too low or you not heating it long enough.
>>
>>9404426
Total fiction.
The rough-appearing texture left behind from the sand casting is irrelevant to sticking. It's the "roughness" at the microscopic level that matters.

You can go spend a bunch of time sanding if you want but it doesn't achieve anything. It's a waste of time. Just season the pan properly and it will work just fine.
>>
>>9404582
total fiction. That roughness can be measured in greater than 100 thou. as soon as I surfaced my pan it started working perfectly.
