So I've been drinking McCafé for a pretty good while now, but they just introduced more stuff. I usually get the lattes, and I tried the new iced "macchiato" and it was good, but it seemed more like café au lait than a macchiato. Or a latte with the milk not being steamed. And their cappuccino I suspect is different from the one they used to have. Reason being, their official website lists it as having by far the most sugar and calories of the McCafé coffee drinks.

The normal way to make cappuccino is a latte, but with less milk and more espresso. That would have LESS calories, not more.

So, does anyone know exactly how the McCafé latte, cappuccino, and macchiato differ from one another? Furthermore, does anyone know what makes the cappuccino such a sugar and calorie monstrosity?

Also, allegedly the syrups don't use artificial flavors or colors anymore, but their pumpkin spice syrup is SO orange that I wonder what they did color it with.

Chances are whatever you order you'll get the same thing you'd get if you ordered a latte. This is how non-specialist coffee shops function and it's just something you have to accept.

OP here. Just checked, and indeed, no artifical flavors or colors! Still looks weird that the drink is so orange, though.

Wait, but it also has caramel color... I thought that was an artificial color.

Does mcdonalds even have espresso machines?
I thought they just used concentrated coffee syrup in all the hot espresso drinks like they do for their frappes.

No, no it isn't.

Cappuccino uses much frothier milk but there's no reason to add any more espresso

It tastes stronger because the milk is frothier (technically there's less milk because frothy milk is full of air)

You really need to educate yourself

And you really need to not be a fucking stupid moron

Are all espresso drinks just milk + coffee?

How boring.

I actually work in McCafe, did my training quite recently.
All our coffees are made with a base, plus milk that is textured according to what the drink is.
Small: 1 shot, (coffee), two spoons powder (hot chocolate), one spoon powder (vanilla chai or mocha).
Medium: 1.5 shot (coffee), three spoons powder (hot chocolate), two spoons powder (vanilla chai or mocha)
Large: 2 shots (coffee), four spoons powder (hot chocolate), three spoons powder (vanilla chai, or mocha).

Cappucino, hot chocolate, mocha, and vanilla chai all have steamed milk with "a lot" of froth. The first three have chocolate powder.
Latte, just like a cappucino but with less froth and no chocolate powder.
A flat white has 1mm/no froth, basically as little as we can, with no chocolate powder.
Long black/short black (expresso), no milk, no powder.
Vienna, long black with whipped cream. I think it has chocolate powder.
Macchiato, an expresso shot with froth.
Piccolo latte, an expresso shot with latte styled milk.

No espresso?

An expresso is just a small shot in a tiny cup

None of the espresso drinks have espresso in them?

I don't understand what you mean? The coffee shots are espresso. Small is one shot of espresso, medium is 1.5, large is 2.
I didn't realise I was spelling it wrong, oops.
Here's a page from our station guide
