Just started college and got off my meal plan because it was bullshit and about to go buy a pot and pan. What are some easy things to start with?

It's stir-fries, pastas, soups, and breakfasts for you, manchego. Get yourself a big pot for making pasta and soup, a cast-iron skillet for general sauteing, and maybe a non-stick for doing eggs and omelettes. A simple chef knife is the only knife you ever really need.
Never, ever use a metal utensil on your non-sticks, and never wash them. Just let them cool a bit and wipe them out thoroughly with a paper towel.
