How do I cook rice in a normal pot without having a shitload stick to the bottom and be a giant pain in the ass?
Also, is it possible to steam stuff without one of those metal collander things?

Wash your rice a few times beforehand

Make sure you're using the right amount of water for the rice you're making. Bring the rice to a boil in the pot, as soon as it hits a good boil turn the heat low, cover it and let it go for 20 minutes. After it's done let it rest another 10.
You can also cook rice by boiling in a lot of water and draining when it's cooked, just like you would pasta.

You can buy a steamer

Buy a rice cooker. Good rice cookers tend to come with a steamer basket and steaming mode.
You can steam vegetables by just putting them in a pot with maybe a half inch of water. A few pieces will get soggy but whatever.
If you really want you could throw a piece of aluminium foil in the pot. Then the only extra water will be a bit of condensation from the lid.

This, I don't get what's so hard about it.
You could try rinsing the starches off the rice using a colander. I know that's how my Mexican grandmother does it.
Alternatively, you could soak it like Indian people do.
