Hey, I'll jump in with this! Making some cheap-ass BBQ chicken at the moment. Gonna post my cooking pot since it seems pretty rare on /ck/, it's called an Instant Pot, it's basically a pressure cooker with extra utility. Gonna saute the chicken in here for a bit before closing the lid and pressure cooking.

Those look good, OP. Recently had some nachos from a place that makes unusually thick tortilla chips. They are definitely fried and I believe are made from flour tortillas. Could two tortillas be stuck together and then fried successfully into a chip? You know, just layered on top of each other and fried. Not sure if something to stick them together is needed.

If you could find it in your heart to try this for me and post the results, a hundred internet blessings will come your way and I'll probably post some OC.

NO cilantro in guac? Not sure how I feel about this. Also interesting that you used a red onion, I've always used white when I make mine. Also also, put those pepper seeds right back in there.

How'd it turn out sans cilantro, what else did you put in spice-wise? I like some cumin and cayenne with way too much garlic and cilantro.

From last thread I'm not really sure what a flan is, but I think it's different from a souffle.

Made some fried ravioli in a spicy cream tomato sauce for my father's birthday. It's the only meal I make that he actually compliments or gets excited for so I figured it was appropriate.

He then sent a picture of it to my brother who recently moved across the country and my brother immediately called and cussed me out demanding the recipe, since it was his favorite too.

Never ever.

The recipe as written uses store bought ravioli and tomato sauce base. I've gone through the hassle of making my own ravioli in the past, as well as my own tomato sauce base and, in my opinion, the effort is not worth the result.

No one I served it to could tell the difference and I was really hard pressed to notice it myself.

Any variety of filling should work fine with the ravioli but in my experience meat filling pairs best.

As written, the recipe ends up pretty spicy, the way my family likes it. Adjust the cayenne and pepper flakes to however you see fit. I've done as little as a teaspoon each to a ridiculous 4 tablespoons each for my insane cousins.

Depending on how much ravioli you actually use, you'll likely end up with some leftover sauce which goes great on burgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, and I've even just used it as a chip dip.

I cut the dough into four pieces and shape em into a squarish block to proof for 10 minutes more.

Then I try and fold it on top of itself and roll it out. Then it proofs another 30 on the pan. It was more round when I started. I think next time I'll do the 30 min proof off the pan and reshape one more time.

Stick pan in oven. Run self-clean cycle. That will strip all the old seasoning off. Then re-season it.

If your oven doesn't have a self-clean cycle then spray down the skillet with oven cleaner to strip the seasoning off. Then re-season.

Holes are the gases escaping and the amount of them depends on what kind of bread. I just watched this video while at the gym, you might find it interesting. I could use more holes in that bread, it didn't rise enough. I put the salt in with the yeast which is not good.

I can advise you to avoid eating out after flood. In 2014 we had a massive flood in my country in Eastern Europe, many ppl who grew vegetables decided to keep whatever they planted and sell it, because water form watering hole and flood mixed a lot of produce got contaminated and people got sick. Wash thourly whatever you buy and don't eat out for a month or so. My bf didn't listen, he had fever and trew his soul up, left half of his bodyweight in toilet, nasty stuff, it lasted for two weeks too. All because he ate a coleslaw made in ethnic restaurant (they didn't wash the carrots). Take care!

What does /ck/ think of this recipe for THICC pancakes? Try ignoring the ugly annoying fuck.

The secret is whipped egg whites to give volume.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iWUUcW08ac
>>
>>9382961
1 cup of milk
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
Some stevia or sugar or sweetner of some sort
1 cup of flour (I just fill up in a measuring cup to one cup of flour)
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp of melted butter

1. whisk the milk, egg, v extract, sweetner together
2. sift in the flour and baking powder and mix together til no lumps
3. pour in the melted butter mix again
4. pour cook till you see some or many bubbles then flip to cook for a
bit longer
5. top maple, icing sugar, bananas or strawberries, or any sweet stuf
>>
>>9383137
ughh probs just 2 tbs of sugar would work should've been more specific, or just a bit of some sweetner to give it some sweetness to
the batter

>hallmark American recipe
Keep in mind that the US is pretty massive, and casseroles like that are not super common outside of rural areas, mainly in a section of the mid-west. Some of that style of casserole is leftover from the canned food propensities of our currently dead or dying old generation.

I occasionally see casseroles at gatherings, often made and brought by a geriatric. The only common ones I see nowadays are shepard's/cottage pie and green bean casserole at thanksgiving. I suppose you get pasta bakes, like what you've got, but I see those typically being either lasagna or lasagna-like with a different noodle (i.e. tomato-based with italian sausage and mozz)

felt like posting what I 'made' in the comfiest thread on /ck/

shop-bought steak and onion pastry slice with broccoli and garlic-roasted potatoes for me and my 3-year-old.

Potatoes are cubed, then parboiled, then roasted with olive oil, salt, garlic and black pepper. Broccoli is just boiled for 2/3 minutes so it stays crunchy, topped with a little butter and S&P before serving. The pasty just cooks in the oven with the potatoes.

'refried' comes more recently from Spanish 'refritos' which just means 'fried'. it got mistranslated as 're-fried' when the dish hit the anglosphere (Mexican/Spanish dish originally) so you're right that 're-frying' beans has never been a thing, but for not entirely the right reason. Frying beans has definitely been a thing

I didn't use any salt for reasons so wasan't expecting the bread to be amazing or anything but just wonding if im missing out
>>
>>9398610
I wasn't sure either, but apparently adding milk helps make a softer loaf in addition to adding flavor. You get an enzyme from the milk that weakens the bonds in the developing gluten, which ends up being a tenderizing effect.

If you see a recipe that calls for scalded milk, or high heat milk powder, it's milk that's been heated to 180F to kill off this enzyme and avoid the effect entirely.

As for why the recipe calls for milk powder, it's just adding the milk but avoiding fucking with the recipe by adding more liquid and then trying to figure out how much water to take out (I don't think it's a 1:1 sub ratio).

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this, I only did a bit of light reading!

So I took my bench scraper and alternated dipping it in boiling water, wiping it off with a paper towel, and slowly trying to flatten out the buttercream. First time trying to smooth buttercream out.

Boy is it aggravating. Either the heat or the moisture turned the smoothed parts a darker color, I wonder if those will dry lighter like the parts I didn't touch. Definitely need to over-apply frosting if you're going to attempt to smooth!

Good practice either way. Anyone have alternate methods for cleaning up the outside of the cake?

Meyer's dark rum. The recipe recommended it, apparently it's pretty popular in baking.

I made some more popcorn. I really need to stop.

Dry sauteed some mushrooms and stirred in a bit of butter and some marsala. Cooked up some jalapeno slices and garlic chips to go with that. Squeezed a couple limes over the popped corn, sprayed with cooking spray, and tossed in ground white pepper, onion powder, cayenne, paprika, salt, and grated parmesan. Layered in a couple baking sheets and shredded some extra sharp aged white cheddar over it all, and baked it till it all melted and dried out a bit (about 15 minutes at 270F).

Topped with dried parsley flakes, lime zest, red pepper flakes, and a bit more salt.

I've been craving blood sausage like crazy recently, maybe I have some iron deficiency or something. So I'm having that fried with onion and a side of tomatoes with… um, onion, yeah. + sour cream, parsley, chives, rye bread, coffee, the usual stuff. I like me a hearty breakfast.

Hi there!
You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!
Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

I don't think any popcorn would be really good left over... but I can't say I've ever tried, because it never lasts that long.

Maybe you can refresh it in the oven?

Hi ck

I'm roasting this piece of lamb shoulder I got from the butcher today. Never cooked lamb before and never cooked a roast before (apart from roast chicken) so a bit nervous!

Ready for the oven. I think I put too much paste on it but you live and you learn. The butcher told me too cook it for 2 hours so I've set my timer accordingly.

Now for a drink before making the potatoes

Make some potato wedges then, one half peeled, the other half unpeeled and let them try both and tell you which one was better. Should be no contest.

Lamb, potatoes, tzatziki style sauce and grilled halloumi - the finished product.

The lamb looks much pinker on my camera - I think it's about medium really. Would have liked it rarer but I can figure that out next time I cook. I also can't carve meat to save my life. My SO normally handles that but he's at work.

Also please ignore the chipped plate! I didn't realise until I saw the photo
>>
>>9405904
Looks really delicious but I have one question--how do you avoid glooping tzatziki all over everything so your plate is basically swimming?

I can't not do this whenever that sauce is available.
>>
>>9405904
Nice. Would eat.

>>9404915
>I've never had blood sausage. What's it like?
I don't know how to describe it, I guess it tastes a bit like liver? But I'm not a big fan of liver and blood sausage I love.
>>
>>9406677
Thanks! I honestly don't know re the tzatziki - I just used a spoon and put it on my plate. It's probably a bit chunkier that normal tzatziki (I wasn't chopping stuff finely) so that might be why?

Oh, I wasn't talking about the consistency, I meant my absolute gluttony with that sauce. I love it.

I usually make way too much and end up just eating it with a spoon.
