I've never been in a restaurant which allows this, and if yours does then it's on you

This is the logical choice. Eat your large meal early on and then you will be able to burn through it during the day. Then you eat a lighter meal later on when you are just going to site around for a few hours and then get ready for bed.

I don't understand why western cuisine has this rigid idea of what food is suitable for lunch/dinner, what's appetizer/entree/dessert, etc., and greet people with hostility or contempt if they veer outside this set structure.

Is this really an issue? I wasnt aware. What about lunch menu during dinner?

I take it you don't work at a restaurant. I WANT people to order from the dinner menu for lunch. Where I work, lunch entrees are 10-13 bucks, while dinner ones are 22-35. Better for the servers, better for the restaurant if they want to get the more expensive stuff. Those and the day drinkers dropping 30 bucks on scotch and martinis at 11:30 AM are what save the lunch shift. God bless those people.
