What're the best ingredients for dog food? I'm trying out flour treats, but what kind of flour should I use?

I use 2 parts whole wheat, 1 part wheat germ, 1 part cornmeal, and enough egg and milk for the dough to come together. I usually add some cheese or peanut butter. They love them. Could easily substitue lard for some of the moisture.
