How does that even work? I have no clue what tastes good or not together and nobody is ever willing to try what I cook to criticize what i'm doing wrong. Do you just start thinking, "oh man, a pork cutlet wrapped in thin sliced chicken breast smothered with lemon pepper sounds delicious right now!"

Train your taste pallet and try everything and try to mix flavors

Just experiment. I've found most recipes to be a good starting point but not really my idea of "The perfect ---".
Try using different spices, look at what vegetables taste similar, etc...
I personally also find the chemistry and physics in cooking more interesting than cooking itself and understanding the difference in cooking methods can give you some ideas as well.
