I need a quick rundown on this stuff, aparently my brother bought some of these from a new store in my city and I'm afraid to eat them.

I'm not sure what there is to say other than the obvious anon. It's pieces of eel meat cooked in gelatin aka aspic aka jelly. That ought to make it clear what kind of flavor and texture to expect.

Surprisingly it's not as "fishy" tasting as you'd expect. Still, there's absolutely no reason to buy it except for trying it once out of curiosity. It's the kind of thing that was eaten a hundred years ago out of necessity and only exists now as a meme food sold by people trying to be "traditional"
Lord Manderly loves that stuff.

Real jellied eels aren't cooked in jelly, just spiced water that causes them to release fat that turns the stock into jelly

Originally they only used the natural stuff, but these days I think almost everywhere adds gelatin to ensure maximum jelly.

isn't that like 60% of food and drink as a whole
Pratchett is the best brand of jellied eels.

A lot of things are like this. I think there's some value in recognizing where you came from.
