>preheat a pan in the oven
>butter another pan
>half the pan cubano lengthwise
>place each half bread side down to toast it
>assemble your sandwich
>butter both sides of the loaf
>grab preheated pan, press hard but evenly down on the sandwich, sandwich should not be and thicker than your hands stacked on top of each other flat on a table.
>make sure you cut on the DIAGONAL.
>profit.

I used to work with a Cuban guy. He's just flatten the sandwich as best he could with his hands then toss it into the toaster oven in the break room for a few minute. Probably not perfect but better than nothing I guess.

how the fuck is that cuban bread, that is clearly a french baton. why do communists have to steal everything and call it their own.

Just pretend you're making grilled cheese. Butter and olive oil in warmed pan (you can even render a little garlic into the oil). Press bread into warm oil, turn down heat, need to toast it and heat it up all the way through before it burns. Turn over, press bread down now. Flip it a couple of times since you are not using a press. Apply a little pressure with spatula.
P.S. A traditional cuban sandwich is lovely:
sliced roast pork (good to be lechon asado style with mojo)
sliced ham (serrano is traditional spanish ham)
swiss cheese (use more than you'd think)
dill pickles
yellow mustard
But to make it EXTREME, do the croqueta preparada, and add some ham croquettes in there.

It's definitely not the same. The shell is very thin and the inside is slightly salty
Go outside and grab a brick from somewhere. Wash it off, dry it, and wrap it in tinfoil. There's your new sandwich press
