Greetings fellow knife sluts.
Ordered these two yesterday.
Should have bought some Herders. Globals are not known for their steel, and many people have issues with the handles, which get pretty slick when wet.
Also, I have never understood what the top knife is really for. I know people call it a tourneeing knife but I don't think it works. That rounded edge wil always try to keep the blade going in one plane, no way it is better for cutting round stuff like potatoes.

I already have a Global chef's knife and really like it. What I hear is that the ones with the skinny handles are the ones that get slippery. The fat handled ones like the paring knife are well grippable at least in my experience. The only reasons I bought the top one are:
1. It was on super sale, which tells me you are not alone in not seeing the value of it.
2. Nostalgia. My grandfather worked a knife into a similar blade shape and I ended up with it when he died. I used it until the handle fell apart. It had some very specific uses. Can't actually remember any of them tho so could be I wasted my 30 bucks.
>le global hate meme
My main kitchen knife for the last 6 years is a global and it's fucking lovely.

Globals aren't bad and nobody hates them, but you can get better for the same money nowadays - both better steel and better ergonomics.
Global are fine for a mid range knife. They've done a great job with brand recognition and marketing too. I've got a couple in my wrap, used to have a bread knife from them but sold it.
This is my most recent purchase. Paring knife in 52100 and sg2 Damascus chefs.

Was the Global bread knife any good? I have thought about getting that one. I have handled it but never cut any bread, which is, ya know, the whole point.

I liked the bread knife, but some people who used it didn't. Its much wider than a lot of other bread knives, and not flexible. Has more of a bite in the serrations than your standard 'loyal' brand bread/pastry knife. Its also not ambidextrous. Honestly I think victorinox make a better serrated knife, although the global isn't a bad choice. But I don't use serrated knives anymore.

Be useful or fuck off.
I have the 3.5 inch paring knife and i love it!
