what is this and how exactly do I season with it?

I tried it in curry two days ago, but didn't taste a difference. I used about a pinch, because I thought when the packaging is so small, the amount I should use in cooking should be small as well. Did I do wrong or is it just some way to fancy-up something?

It's mostly used in african/morroccan dishes. The ones I made were really tasty, but I haven't found that much use for it yet...
