I don't know what would make either qualify as better, but I've always been someone who prefers salad after the meal, before dessert/cheese/diegistifs or all three.

I like to eat it after, I usually make lighter salads with vinegar and no oil to be refreshing after a meal. If you put stuff in it like cheese, egg, nuts, or use a creamy dressing, eat it before the meal.
