No idea, I bought it in the city it was brewed in, and I don't rely on websites to tell me what to drink. Imo there are unquestionably better beers available (including many from the UP), but it is extremely drinkable and has a good if mellow flavor. If you had a friend who drinks macros and wants to get into craft/micro it would be a good option to share. You're not looking at something as hoppy as say an IPA, or heavy as a stout. I guess you could call it a session beer

Honestly if you're interested in that brewery imo their best is honey lav, it's a good "drink ice cold at the beach" summer beer. I thought I'd hate drinking lavender flavor but I'll be fucked if it isn't great. Anyhow I could gush about UP beers lots but piss on that idea. I will say upper Michigan is worth it if you're into beer tourism. I've always liked bell's Oberon/Two Hearted/other Kalamazoo options but damn their new upper hand lineup is phenomenal.. like two years old or so. If you find yourself in escanaba, do yourself a favor and get a pint at Hereford & Hops. I've not met a beer of theirs I didn't love but their crown jewel/popular offering is whitetail ale (it's pretty good but not their best). I recommend Cleary Red

IPA fag here. All things being equal, my brew of choice is Commodore Perry IPA from Great Lakes brewery. If I had unlimited funds and unlimited liver capacity, I would go for Harpoon Leviathan IPA, but as it stands, I save that one for a special occasion.

Lately times have been tough (sigh) and I am stuck drinking swill. Steel Reserve tall boys. It's basically carbonated bourbon in a can, but it *will* get you drunk.

I work at two breweries local to me. I brew a beer at one, an oatmeal Baltic Porter that is my pride and joy. Look it up on untappd, it's called Jormangundr.

Currently drinking a gose from my other brewery, as I am also a huge fan of sours.

If you pour it carefully it's lovely. You absolutely need a clean glass though, otherwise the head won't form properly and it will taste tart. It's up to you whether to pour in the sediment or not. If not, leave about 1cm of beer in the bottle.

I always found it a little lacking compared to something like St. Bernardus Wit. Then again I'm not a huge Witbier fan in general, I much prefer German Hefeweizen. Still quite pleasant though. I wish my supermarket stocked more Japanese beers than just Hitachino Nest and the standard macros.

These guys just started distributing shit to my area. The artwork is gimmicky, but kind of cool. The names are fucked, but the beer is pretty great. Their saison is made with rye so it has that spice to it and it works really well.

Honestly, I have not tried a beer from Great Lakes brewery that I did not thoroughly enjoy. It's really going to come down to individual preference, and personally, I prefer the Perry IPA over the rest.

My ex gf got us an 8 year aged DIPA from Keegan Ales in Poughkeepsie (the bottle cost $40 l m a o) and it tastes like carbonated sugar syrup. Absolutely overpowering and nothing like an IPA.

I'm a firm believer in the fresher the better for IPAs.

Had a fresh Orval, a cellared Orval, a Rochefort 10 and a cellared Westy 12 today for lunch. Overall it was a thoroughly rewarding experience, especially if you pair the quads with some strong blue stilton or Trappist cheese. Would definitely recommend if given the opportunity.

I could say the same about some stuff from Michigan! Though the big ones around you have way more export power than ours. Out of the ones I listed, Allagash probably gets around the most. Sip of Sunshine is great - a local gastropub gets it on draft once in a while, I've yet to get my hands of the Topper though.

It makes me sad that I'll probably never get this. I only ever really see KBS, SMS, and Dragon's Milk around here, aside from the occasional overpriced bomber from some random brewery.

On a side note, I've always found normal Expedition Stout much less bitter than most other Russian Imperials.

Ale Smith is another super solid brewery. Speedway Stout is a golden standard for imperial stouts IMO. Haven't seen Private Stock around yet though.

The bba expedition is fantastic. I'm obsessed with black note, which took me forever to get because of its weird production and me being to lazy to put any kind of effort into it. Black note is incredibly smooth but still has great body. It's awesome. Apparently it is a blend of bba expedition and bba double cream, and the double cream, being the low and smooth part of the equation some times doesnt bba well so the expedition is supposedly twice as rare as the black note and pretty big. It rocks my socks.

It's still expensive tho. 2 to 3 Euro for a 0.33 bottle. But the taste makes up for it. Also found a local store that has a ton of craft beer and other more rare beer in general. Hope that fixes my issue from bow on.

The entire "craft beer" culture in America was built by edgy malcontents whose entire lives revolved around the avoidance of the mainstream. Consumer standards for beer worldwide have soared to the point that previously niche breweries are now the big dogs on the market, with more and more microbreweries flooding in to saturate it. Beer hipsterism has become mainstream, and it's easy to see how the iconoclast feels even more alienated than before now Chad McNormie's sipping from his glass.

Still, what matters at the end of the day is quality, and I would rather have good beer shipped from the other side of the Atlantic than subsist on mediocre product from the small local breweries in my town. The notion that esotericism can cover incompetence is the pinnacle of wishful thought.

If you're a fan and see any of the old package around I'd grab it now 'cause original Resin is indefinitely retired. I was going to write something up for you, but this is a good summary. Most important is the dry finish and almost fruity estery flavor from the Belgian yeast, IMO.

Just brewed my first saison and am excited to try it, especially now that I have a kegerator and don't need to bottle. Will post results when it's done (in like, two weeks).

Lonely Blonde is their their top seller, but it's pretty boring beer. If you're into happy brews definitely check out Fulton 300 (mosaic single hop) and sometime in September they'll be releasing another (hopefully larger) batch of Hopstar if you missed it back in June. Yeah, don't bother with Libertine. It's a dud from their 4pk series of brews. If you want a good red, Founders released reDANKulous in 4pk/12oz this year instead of 22oz bombers like previous releases. It's a damned well done imperial red IPA clocking in at 9.5% for $11-12/4pk.

I got the rundown regarding the Resin reformulation from Sixpoint's regional brand manager in the midwest. After a side-by-side tasting with the original Resin I commented on the more acidic, overly ripe pineapple note that reminded me of Hi-Res, upon which he admitted they had tweaked the hops for Resin 2.0 but would not disclose the specific changes. It's still a great beer, but they made more changes than just skipping filtration.

If you properly (and I mean PROPERLY) sterilised the growler before filling it and seal it airtight, the beer should keep for about as long as bottled beer does (i.e. 6-9 months).

While beer won't 'spoil' in these conditions, it will inevitably go flat as carbon dioxide escapes, and oxidise, both of which are going to ruin the taste. Thus, I'd advise you to prolong freshness by buying growlers that are opaque or made of brown glass, and finish drinking as fast as possible.

As an addendum; I neglected to mention that cask beers are usually unpasteurised in contrast to bottle beers, so shelf life is actually going to be a lot less (closer to 2 months, even in cold storage). There's a reason why kegerators exist.

Again, the alcohol in beer should keep bacteria from building up to harmful levels, but freshness doesn't last long.

Just had a founders kbs. Awesome beer. Probably the best stout I've had. Any recomendations stout wise?

Also commercially Guinness Antwerpen stout is good.

I don't believe so. Barleywines get their name from their barley content. There are beers called "wheatwines" so I expect the same premise to apply

Barleywines usually come in around 10% ABV. I've seen some that are higher (up to ~14%) and some that are lower (~8%) in ABV.

Yeah, there are some great experimental beers that come through the tasting room.

From The Oxford Companion to Beer: "barley wine is the strongest of beers and while not always literally approaching the alcohol content of whine, usually surmounts the strength of ales referred to as "strong" and "old", to which they are related. The first beers we now think of as barley wines sprang from the British farmhouse tradition, often as beers brewed from the first runnings (strong worts) of multiple-brew single mashes, which were infused a number of times to yield worts of diminishing strength. This system is know as paratigyle and is still employed in some British breweries. Barley wines are often brewed to alcoholic strengths of 10% ABV, and sometimes more" There's a lot more to this entry.

Porters, stout, or Belgian ales don't use as much barley, at least in my brewing experience. You use some barley to get the reddish tones in darker ales, but you're relying much more heavily on the roasted malts to give color.

I really enjoy their barrel aged offerings. I've had BA Bigfoot, a BA wheatwine, and a BA Madeira Quad that was spectacular. Hoptimum, a triple IPA, is also surprisingly drinkable. They also made a red IPA in collaboration with Karl Strauss Brewing that was fantastic. I'd be happy if any of those enter their regular lineup.

I'm in NYC and I've noticed Sip of Sunshine is becoming easier and easier to get so I guess it's becoming mainstream. A place by me has it on tap and I was at a random gas station a couple weeks ago and noticed they had a 4 pack sitting in the fridge....

I think Sip of Sunshine is the most over rated of the popular craft beers

Taking these steps will allow us to express our support for the Indian-American community while also limiting any economic losses.”
