As long as there has been civilization there have been food crazes. Cities magnified the thing. Think about 20th Century America - You had chili, hot dogs and apple pie as the cliche foods. Then soda became a thing during Prohibition. Then burgers, fries and milkshakes. Then fried chicken, sub sandwiches and pizza made their way across the country.

I went to pittsburgh last august, drove out there for a karate thing. I have to say I loved that city, only problem is I was congested the entire time I was there because I guess I wasn't used to something in the air so even though I was eating all the memes like meat and potatoes and that place in your picture, and the pickle thing, I couldn't really taste much.
also I slept maybe 3-4 hours the entire 3 days I was there, so maybe the city was great, or maybe I was just slap happy because I was delirious
