What are some foods that you really lose out on if you buy generic? What are the foods where it really makes no difference?

I'd say soy sauce is the biggest one, as far as generic being inferior to even a mid-priced brand like Kikkoman. When I see someone with generic soy sauce in their shopping cart I want to stop them and tell them they're short-changing themselves in life.
Also I'd add sour cream and graham crackers.

As for products for which there is no difference, I think we can all agree on ketchup.

I think the more processed the food is, the less it matters.

For instance, off-brand Cheez-Its are just as good if not better than real thing, as are most cereals and frozen foods.
>>
off brand poptarts, at least the ones i've tried, are fucking awful

Pearl River Bridge is 100x better than Kikkoman, though.
>>
Wal-Mart brand Doritos are much better than normal Doritos.

Anything other than Kraft macaroni is fucking disgusting.

Cultural enrichment, duh.

It's amazing how many wack uk supermarket brand soy sauces exist. What's amazing is, they all also have their on unique terrible flavour. Like a genre onto themselves since they taste nothing like kikkoman or actual Soy sauces from Asia. I might make a small blog reviewing them. Last one I had tasted like baked beans.

If you grow accustomed to a particular brand of curry powder, then switching to store brand will fuck up anything you use it on if you don't test-run it first.

Store-brand brown sugar always seems to have something not quite right about it as well.

Store brand chicken will always contain more water or """"""broth for flavor"""""""

Don't know what it is, but Walmart brownies and Swiss rolls blow the Little Debbie ones out of the water though.

Eggos are the only toaster waffles I've ever liked

The albertsons crunchy raisin bran is the best to ever exist. Period.

Some generic cocoa powders are pretty shit. Trader Joe's's is pretty good and cheaper than any generic I've found. I prefer it over Hershey's's.
>>
>>9182870
Generic sugar is mostly beet, at least in the U.S. C&H whitens their cane sugar with bone char. I prefer to eat fruit.
>>
>>9182796
ketchup can be pretty different though, the cheapest one will always have very little tomatoes and will generally taste like shit
brands don't matter with something like potato crisps or rice, stuff you just can't fuck up

>I think the more processed the food is, the less it matters.
I'd say the opposite is true for most single-ingredient products.
