There are a LOT of varieties of garlic, but at least in the US you'll rarely find it outside of specialty markets. Some are milder than the garlic you get in the store, some are stronger. Others have an incredible spice to them, almost like the bite of dry mustard or horseradish (and some incredibly so).

If you get the chance, try some Polish Hardneck or Peruvian Purple. Both are some of the stronger, spicier garlics and are just great.
