I realize it was a fad for a while. I'm glad I caught the bug after the fact. I have a IPA boner. Post a link to some music and a picture of beer. Please. What do you love to drink? Here's a pic from several days ago.

My problem with IPAs, especially from craft beer breweries, is that they always seem like they're trying to out-hop each other and no one is winning.

My girlfriend at the time was into graphic design and helped me get it all onto some program she used for work. I did all the sketches and rough drafts.

I could only actually bottle 12 of them because, as it turns out, high-quality ink and paper isn't cheap, so I just bottled the rest and kept it in a spare fridge.

It wasn't bad, but it definitely needed some refining. The peach flavor was weak but the carbonation and sugar levels were just right. I suppose it wasn't bad for a first batch.

I've already trademarked the brewery name just in case
>>
>>9155137

You know there's other types of beer out there, right?

IPAs aren't everything
>>
>>9155137

Honestly the best drink to make with 40oz malt liquor is a Brass Monkey

Drink the beer down to the top of the label, fill it back up with orange juice, cap it, roll it across the floor to mix it up, then enjoy.

It's actually pretty good despite being associated with certain... undesirables

Yeah but a good IPA from Founders or Bells is amazing. They require a high threshold of excellence and there are too many bad ones out there.
>>
>>9161760
It's because most of them just don't taste good. I've noticed a lot of people who talk about drinking IPAs don't talk about the "right" kind of bitterness that doesn't make you feel sick, or proper balancing of flavors or anything like that, they just talk about bitterness ratings like it's a competition. Kind of like some people with hot sauces, they'll eat hot sauces that don't taste good just because they added pure capsaicin in it to make it hotter.

I only had one IPA that had the right kind of bitterness that didn't make my stomach feel gross, even though it was very bitter it was the "right" kind of bitter. The "right" kind of bitter mostly stays in your mouth but the wrong kind will make your stomach feel off, and that's how most IPAs are.

I've also noticed some people who drink IPAs talking about how much they like bitterness and dislike sweetness but after a while they give it up and just drink whatever they think tastes good. Most people don't want beer-drinking to be a competition of who can handle the most bitter swill.
>>
>>9161835
Of course there are good IPAs out there.

Like most things, IPA hate is a generalization, because as you said there as so many bad ones.
>>
>>9161826
im getting more 2hearted tomorrow. it's good. getting some kind of stout tonight though. not sure what.
>>
>>9161855
I really like IPAs that are citrusy, but piney IPAs churn my stomach. It's all in the hops, not in the amount of the hops as you said. That's what an IPA is after all, a hop forward beer.

>>9161859
>it's good.
I thought so too until I tried drinking one when I was hungover. I nursed it for an hour and gave up the ghost. Never drink an IPA hungover.
>getting some kind of stout tonight though. not sure what.
Try Lagunitas, they make a nice stout that is quite affordable.

Are IPAs any easier or tougher to brew than something like a porter or an English bitter? A brewery opened in my town recently, and they only offer IPAs. I'm aware it's extremely popular, but for fuck's sake, I'd like some variety that isn't limited to an expensive seasonal release.

>>
>>9164917

>>
>>9164921
Yeah, i cant afford to be an alcoholic on this shit.
>>
>>9164917
how long does beer stay good?
>>
>>9164944
Depends on the beer. And and style play a big role. Really big stuff like huge barley wines can go for a very long time. (Their is a 25 yo Thomas Hardys in that picture im opening in august). Most people will tell you that you get diminishing returns on things older than 5 years but I think they are full of shit and havent properly stored their stuff. If it's under 8.5% dont keep it for more than a year. Some styles (iPa' s for instance) should be drank fresh.
>>
>>9164930
I remove my beer paraphernalia every single day because I rent. Literally no one but the cashiers at the store know I'm an alcoholic and it's illegal for them to reveal my purchases to anyone else. I just tote the beer bottles back down to trashcans or dumpsters in town. I have to be secretive.
>>
>>9164964
>Abv and style*

Fuck you android keyboard
>>
>>9164964
My homebrew supply store owner had a Barleywine that he aged for 12 years in a whiskey barrel. I sampled some and it was hellacious good. He told me to guess what it was and since it was pitch black I guessed Imperial Stout.
>>
>>9164981
It'll take 20 months before you're proficient in android 2 keyboarding. I get really fast and angry while I'm drunkposting.

>>9164944
I don't like beer older than 20 days. Always skunks.
>>
>>9164990
Skunking is physically and chemically impossible in the absence of UV light. Your beer spoiled another way or you didnt store it properly.

Also: typing on this pos has been rough since Samsung pushed android 7. Marshmallow was fine.
>>
>>9165049
I guess it's just dropped bottles and shit handling then man. Some beers just get really shitty. I do sit outside and drink but I keep them out of direct sunlight, but they're sometimes skunked when I get them. I blame the beer stocker and the truck driver.
>>
>>9164988
Aging in oak is different than bottle aging. The beer is interacting ultimately with the outside environment (the wood acts as a buffer for biological interactions but moisture/heat/other shit still are transferred through the wood. Albeit slowly) This is a hard concept for begginer whiskey fags as they think grandpa's 35 year old jack daniels fifth thay he half drank and forgot at the cabin is worth $$$. (It's not, whiskey is rendered inert by its abv and the sealed environment of a bottle. Without the barrel letting environment interact with it, whiskey doesnt change much after it is bottled.) What makes beer and wine different is the stuff is still "alive" in that the cultures that provide fermentation are suspended by the upper tolerances of abv for their strains and do all kinds of complex chemical shit as they live and die in the solution.
>>
>>9165055
Oxygen ingress during bottling, poor bottling conditions, exposure to light or just shitty beer are the most common causes.
>>
>>9165055
I really believe getting beer cold then warming it up and rechilling it makes it skunk too.
>>
>>9165093

Since this is the de facto beer thread, I'll post this Canadian beer. I get a "hefeweizen" feel from the yeast, fruit flavor, and the bitterness of spice. There's also a pleasant tinge of alcohol (9% ABV) which is rushing to my head as I type. It's also heavily carbonated so it tingles as it flows. This is some good shit.

Im drinking a 2 hearted ale as i type. Im not an IPA fan. But this beer is tremendous. A problem i run into with ipa is the overly piney and grapefruit notes. In this beer its so balanced. You get a citrus and hop taste at the start but its only a moment. Then you get a delicious malt flavor tempered with bittering hops. And a drying faint piney finish. Ive had pliney the elder and this beer is in the same league or slightly ahead. I would have to have them side by side.

you go to the store and 40-60% of it is IPAs in some fashion
beer threads on /ck/ and 40-60% of the beer is IPAs in some fashion
just wish there was a little more, well, for lack of a better word, diversity.

Last beer I had that kinda tasted like oil was a balsamic beer in Belgium, legit tasted like vinegar but one of the most incredible and unique beers I've ever had

I didnt feel like drinking a stout or pils or lager or red ale that night, so I didn't buy anything that I didn't want.
Fuck negative assholes. I don't give their opinions any validation by replying usually. People that only post to bitch about others' opinions are about the more sperged out, lame ass, sad fuckers on 4chan, and they are so god damned common. It's like walking to a park bench, but hating grass. The bench as good as long as you don't stop and bitch about every blade of grass you have to walk over. They are just lonely, bitter and pathetic.
>>
>>9176123
Great 4am post about literally nothing relevant to the thread you weak-ass bitch.
>>
>>9176130
no you
>>
>>9175625
So buy those then. Ipa's are popular in America. They have been a big part of craft beer growth in the US basicly since the beginning and represent a huuuuuge variety even within the style. The shit head who is bitching about his baby taste buds and cant understand why anyone would like them is a contrarian fuck who thinks being a picky bitch gives them the right to be loud and annoying and highjack polite discussion by others. Litteraly a vegan/nonGMO/gluten free faggot.

I could be completely wrong but aren't IPAs usually drinken by hipster liberals? IDK why I associate IPA's with ironic 1800s style mustaches and people that watch IFC, could be totally confused with something else.
>>
>>9178695
Hipsters (and you) love dick in their mouths, not ipa
>>
>>9178695 also, what the fuck is drunken. Drank is the word you are looking for you uneducated piece of shit.
>>
>>9178719
Drinken*. The keyboard wouldnt even accept your butchery of the language
>>

heineken is literally soap+piss. it's on the same level as corona. utter subhuman trash.
>>
>>9178765
I can see you have sophisticated taste in brews, goon sire *tips IPA*
>>
>>9161760
IPA is the fucking Starbucks avocado sandwitch knife-in-hamburger Apple McBook man bun tattoo ear gauges of food.
Only the lowest of the low subhuman nu-male hipster millenial trash shills for it, because it is currently the IN thing.
>>
>>9178832
>IPA
>currently the IN thing
Hello time traveler. Have you seen the first black man elected to the US presidency yet?
>>
>>9178770
Are you saying Heineken isn't a bad tier beer?
Honestly its probably the single worst beer choice you can make as an American, terrible beer that is priced as a premium beer
>>
>>9178853
the double irony of your post will most likely fly over your head.
>>
>>9178859
>Honestly its probably the single worst beer choice you can make as an American
That would be the "Hurricane" high gravity malt liquor. It's undrinkable when it's cold, just imagine how it is warm.
>>
>>9178832
Thats like saying bacon is bad
Just because its trendy and you see it everywhere for the last 15 years doesn't make it bad, its quite good actually especially if you avoid the west coast version in favor of Midwestern and New England styles
>>
>>9178860
What ? I am confus
>>
>>9178832
wow you are going through a lot of effort to bait this thread that already has 250 replies. What are you drinking that is so superior to an IPA?
>>
>>9178886
>a lot of effort
He just threw a bunch of buzzwords in his post. If he was actually a good troll he would be subtle but believable.

Sadly trolling is a lost art form and children think making blatant bait is "trolling".

Appalachian beer is quite underrated. Lots of great entries, particularly darker beers.
>>
>>9178870
your analogy is shit because bacon has been around before Egyptians trolled kikes with it and not "rediscovered" by a bunch of subhuman late 20s/early 30 year old hipster millenials and sold at ridiculous premium prices that would make whisky distilleries blush at the price/liter ratio and the minimal effort involved - which is ironic, because all hipster millenials are subhuman lazy bumfucks.

>>9178886
any standard German beer shits on your hipster mouth wash.
>>
>>9178918
>sold at ridiculous premium prices
The fuck you talking about? Craft beer is pretty damn affordable, sure its more expensive than college tier light beer, but its at a price point pretty much anyone can afford

Your whole shtick is bad and wrong
>>
>>9178918
German beer isn't that good. Germany's cheap beer is better than other places cheap beer so it got a good reputation, but beyond that its way behind America and Belgium and probably even England now
>>
>>9178711
Why are you being rude? I was just asking for clarification. I have hipster acquaintances from school and they tweet constantly about weird IPAs they bought from whole foods or whereever. Everyone else I know just drinks regular domestic beers.

>20s/early 30 year old hipster millenials made craft beer

You are so fucking ignorantly wrong it's amazing. Charlie Papazian published, "The Joy of Homebrewing" in the early 80's when microbrews were beginning to startup again after the drought caused by prohibition and brewers switching to adjuncts for cheapness and satisfying the feminine palate during WWII. It was a Boomer driven movement by men who were sick of having feminized adjuncts or skunked imports as the only choices in beer. They have a shitload more in common with the men and beer scene in 19th century America when there were over 4000 microbreweries operating than your feminine adjuncts, pussfag.

>>

I fuckin' hate The Eagles, man
>>
>>9179221

>>
>>9179196
it's just very common. i like the oberon alright, and their mars dipa is good. i'm just not too impressed with the two hearted ale. it's like the velvet underground of beers. the people who drink it think they're drinking this very special thing that few people know about.
>>
>>9179291
No one thinks that. It's in every bar and liquor store and even most gas stations. It's the Sierra Nevada of the midwest
>>
>>9179310
i already said it's common. it is for IPA right now what people used to think of boston lager compared to macro pilsners. at least in my city.
>>
>>9179310
It's in most stores here in the southwest too. Maybe it's just good beer and hating it for being popular is what fags do
>>
>>9179291
Two Hearted is probably the best widely available old school IPA
>>
>>9179291
Literally no one drinking Bells considers it obscure
>>
>>9179354
i'm not saying it's bad, it's just weirdly exalted.
>>
>>9179407
I mean, IPAs in general have gotten way the fuck better over the last 10 years, but before that Two Hearted was amazing. But unless you are in the UP, it doesn't seem like people talk about it that much anymore
>>
