Coke's marketing revolves entirely around driving home the idea that they're an essential part of your life in a bout of circular reasoning that works so well because they've been marketing it like this this nonstop for the last 100 years or so.

The reason so many people are miserable on 4chan and elsewhere is a lack of perceived meaning in their lives.

Boycotting lets them feels like they're standing up for something.

If you don't like the actions of a corporation but still buy their product you have no right to bitch and moan. It's that simple
>>
>>9149638
Boycotting Coke because they made a joke about gays or trannies or whatever is childish. Don't delude yourself into thinking that you are changing the world because you think you are worth anything in the eyes of a corporation like coke.

>>
>>9149595
Yes, I believe many generics today are just repackaged major brands. They don't change ingredients because they are basically getting rid of surplus. Their factories can produce more than they can sell at their higher price point. When you buy the major brand you are just paying for the name but you are also paying for some level of consistency. You don't know what is in the generic this week.
>>
>>9149645
I'm boycotting Coke for their illegals singing the anthem commercial during the superbowl. If they want to push a pro destroy America agenda they can do it on someone else's dollar. I like pepsi since they handed a cop a cola. That's the right message to be sending even if they backpedaled.

"...pastured systems that require significant synthetic fertilization, inputs from supplemental feed, or deforestation to create pasture, have substantially greater climate impact at all time scales than the feedlot and dairy-associated systems analyzed. Even the best pastured system analyzed has enough climate impact to justify efforts to limit future growth of beef production, which in any event would be necessary if climate and other ecological concerns were met by a transition to primarily pasture-based systems."
>>
>>9149614
Boycotting means you're not giving them your money. Giving them money is the dumbest thing you can do if you're against something. It's not necessarily that we think it's going to change anything, but we're at least not funding what we don't approve of. How the fuck is this a hard concept to grasp?
>>
>>9149694
Not all unrecognizable brands are generic. Some are just very small brands. Generic is a word we use mostly for store brands. There are food companies who will produce brands for other companies so they don't need to maintain separate facilities. Some generics are probably this and not just major brand repackaging. You can even bring them your recipe and have them make it for you.
>>
>>9148374
I've always found the Aldi-generic brands of beer to be hilarious.
It's not Angry Orchard, it's Wicked Grove. It's not Heineken, it's Holland 1893. It's not Beck's, it's Bacher's, it's not Blue Moon, it's Kangaroo Blue, it's not Fat Tire it's Boot Tread. Stuff that matches the cadence or aesthetic of the original but just never quite on the mark.
>>
>>9149771

Uline sells 32,500 products, all made in China knock offs, knives, brooms tapeguns, garbage bins

The company is owned entirely by the Uihlein family. FORBES estimates that the company is worth somewhere between $700 million and $2 billion, potentially making the Uihleins billionaires.

I just tried it, but heated it too hot. The first stage is a little awkward to drink as the highly excited carbon dioxide jumps out of the drink and mists your face with tiny particles of beverage, but it's still rather good while hot. As it sits, it quickly goes flat. So you'd have to warm it up just right, then drink it rather quick to enjoy it as a winter drink. Would probably work best if you got something specially formulated like they did with Ginger Ale in Japan, where they figured out how to dispense it from a heated vending machine while maintaining adequate carbonation.

Supermarket brands are fucking comfy.
I buy almost every single non-food item from the Carrefour brand, from deodorant to desserts and cleaning supplies.

99% of the time (and you can check this on the label) it's the EXACT SAME PRODUCT than the top brand, coming from the EXACT SAME FACTORY, which Carrefour / Aldi or whatever gets for cheap as part of deals they make with these brands.

You are literally paying a 200% markup price for the brand name. You are literally a sheep.

No, but 90% of the time it's the same product.
It's much more expensive for a factory to mount a whole separate production line for a weaker version of their product than just sell the same product to a store at a discount. Not to mention that neither the store nor the supplier want to risk their reputations by selling an inferior product.

As a general rule of thumb,
Products that don't differ in quality where it's better to buy the store brand name:
>Cleaning products
>Shampoo
>Toothpaste
>Deodorant
>Paper towels
>Diapers
>Cleaning utensils
>Non-perishable foods or foods with a long shelf life:
>Cooking oil
>Sugar
>Salt
>Condiments
>Pasta
>Canned goods
>Frozen vegetables
>Cereals
>Croutons / Bread products
>Rice
>Tuna
>Ice Cream / Desserts
>Etc.

Products that you should pay top dollar for because they greatly differ in quality:
>Alcohol
>Wine
>Sodas
>Chocolate
>Parfume
>Dog/Cat food
>Non-canned perishable foods* :
>Ready to use sauces
>Red Meat
>Poultry
>Cheese
>Milk
>Butter
>Fish

* I've never heard of ANYONE getting sick from a store brand food (again this would be a PR disaster for both the supplier and the store), but this is just if you are extra paranoid about it.

Blue Bunny may make great value but both are shit.

You listed shampoo, toothpaste, deoderant but I would go even farther. Almost any product requiring FDA approval or "Active Ingredients" is going to be the same across most brands.
>>
>>9157694
>Agree with everything except ice cream.
>Blue Bunny may make great value but both are shit.
I don't know Blue Bunny, I'm not from the USA, but I'll concede that there are terrible store ice cream brands, and also pretty fucking good ones (like DIA Discount Department Stores brand). Let's say it's a try-and-see approach for ice cream. There's no beating top brands like Häagen-Dazs though.

>You listed shampoo, toothpaste, deoderant but I would go even farther. Almost any product requiring FDA approval or "Active Ingredients" is going to be the same across most brands.
Agreed. It wasn't meant to be an exhaustive list, but you can add lots of products I overlooked: soap, detergents, sodium bicarbonate, razors, socks, etc.

>Also, if you are making a fancy dinner you are always better off buying the best brands
Ummm, since when to fancy dinners involve brand name products? Fancy dinners are usually made from ingredients that aren't sold under brand names at the retail level. Maybe you'd reference the farm that the meat came from or the Chateaux that produced the wine. But really, if your concept of a fancy dinner ends with the cheesecake you made with Philadelphia cream cheese in a graham cracker pie crust along with a shot of Bailey's Irish Creme over ice your concept of fancy is shit. Even using the word fancy is shit beyond wanting to fuck someone.

These suppliers get bigger and bigger. They can have multiple subsidiaries selling similar but distinct products. Looking at the distributor on the generic's package won't tell you which one. Also they may use the parent companies name making association with a familiar brand impossible without some sleuthing. It is simpler to buy the name brand and many times the difference is pennies.

It's predatory capitalism. In the case of the water it's using the leverage of being a huge corporation to privatize a public resource for private instead of public gain. In the case of Africa it's telling ignorant people an outright lie - that formula is better than breast milk - that resulted in the deaths of their children. Neither of these is being a good corporate citizen. And as a consumer I get to choose which corporations I support with my dollars. In the case of big food corporations the choice becomes even easier for me, because most of what they make is the kind of trashy crap I don't eat in the first place. What the fuck does Nestle make? Candy, instant coffee, bottled water, iced tea, heat and eat meals, canned milk and pet food. I don't buy any of that shit anyways. So fuck them twice.
