So in the last 6 or so months something has happened where the taste of peanuts and peanut butter has changed a lot for me. Now when I eat anything with peanuts in it I get a harsh bitter note, the peanuty flavour is also a lot stronger. The bitterness actually makes it very unpleasant to eat.
I tried at least 6 different brands of peanut butter in 3 countries, tried a number of different types of roasted or salted peanuts, and as I was in Asia also ate peanut sauces. The bitter note wasn't always there but more often than not it was. Could this be due to some sort of allergies that my body developed? I don't mean like allergic reaction to peanuts but an allergy to something that alters the taste of peanuts maybe? I have been noticing that my nose gets clogged up a lot more these days. The only allergies I've ever had before were early spring seasonal, not sure to what exactly as it only lasts about a month per year and I never got tested for it.
I was never a big peanut butter fan until I started traveling in my mid-20s and found the convenience of eating it, especially on road trips. I sure hope I don't have to find alternatives.
Maybe you grew up.
