So today I bought a pound of shrimp, but it didn't even occur to me that I might need to to research on the subject. If I buy anymore it will be from a local source to ensure quality. These are imported, I did some reading about it earlier and the quality for imported shrimp in the U.S. is terrible. Only 2% is actually even inspected. What do you think, should I try to still eat them? Because I am thinking about just throwing them out and eating the loss. I checked them out a little while ago and they look okay but what can you tell just by looking? I really don't care to get sick or eat any junk.

wow that was helpful

Your only yardstick of quality here is the way the shrimp looks, feels, and smells. You're going to cook the shrimp-- if it's not spoiled, stop worrying. I feel ridiculous explaining this

I'm pretty sure the shrimp the us gets is just terrible in quality compared to most places where seafood is prominent because they are capable of getting their shrimp live. Yes your shrimp is lesser quality but I would in no way worry about getting sick from it, especially if it is frozen.

I didn't buy it frozen in the store but apparently imported shrimp gets frozen to make it here anyway, so I guess at one point it was frozen. They look OK, no smell either. It sounds like the locally fished shrimp are not bad just a bit expensive. But the imported can be pretty bad it sounds like, everything from e.coli to salmonella to MRSA, the farming practices are poor as well as the quality of food they are fed. They sound like they could be gross but who knows? Maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing.

If they aren't gross, they can't be that bad. Most shrimp you find is of not so great quality anyway unless buying directly from fish market, fishermen etc.

it's loaded with antibiocs and other asian drugs. trash em

That's what I'm thinking, don't really feel like messing with them. I'll just buy local next time.
