I'll agree onions appear in more recipes, but they are 9 times out of 10 a side ingredient. Potatoes are the main event while onions are the opener (at best).

vegetables are a plant organ something the plant cannot survive without. fruit is not such thing.

all plants aren't giving their lives to have babies like the male mantis or what ever. fruits have seed and typically come from a blooming flower of a plant.

I just cooked with leek the first time the other week (made potato & leek soup which turned out great). People say you are supposed to throw away the dark green parts, but I sauteed them with some carrot, celery, and onion and seasoned them with some soy sauce, and spices and they taste great. I will say I've never encountered a vegetable that clings and conceals more dirt in all it's folds and layers before, though.
