As long as you don't open the bottle, the CO2 will eventually re-dissolve into the liquid. It helps to chill it.

If you freeze it, the CO2 cannot stay dissolved in ice. It will all go out of solution and stay in the gas bubble at the top of the bottle. If you open it at that point, you may be injured by the shattering plastic due to the extremely high pressure. Sometimes the bottle will explode even before it freezes completely, which will make an enormous fucking mess in your freezer.

If you've accidentally frozen a bottle, put it outside someplace warm until it mostly has thawed. Preferably place a box over it so that if it blows up, it won't spray everywhere -- and also so that plastic fragments are contained.
