Field guides are cheap. Free online. Most mushroom aren't harmful. Stay away from the death caps and such and you'll be fine.

I forage for morels, chantrelles and hen of the woods because they are impossible to confuse with poisonous varieties unless you're seriously retarded.

The problem is in the US there are a shitload of poisonous varieties so you really have to know what you're doing.
