A scale is pointless for spice blends because the potency of spices varies so much.

A recipe might tell you to add a certain amount of spice but it would be pointless to blindly follow it. Taste the spice and adjust accordingly. If your spices are very fresh and potent you probably need less than the recipe states. If your spices are flavorless old shit from McCormick or they've been sitting in your kitchen for years then you would probably need to add more.

Not to mention there's your own personal preference to account for.

Why do people buy cheap things that are wholly inappropriate? Cheap mug? Makes sense--you can't really fuck up a mug. But a cheap milligram scale? The whole point of a milligram scale is accuracy and precision, both of which are completely counter to "cheap".
