Biggest issue is that fatties without tastebuds are somehow still breeding.

The myth that food is awful in the US comes from the fact that most of what's in our supermarkets and served in our chain restaurants is awful. We have some of the best food in the world, but most of us don't have access to it.

This. Since we're so large, enormous areas are virtual food deserts with a Piggly Wiggly tier mom and pop grocery or if they're really lucky a Walmart. Ironic really, since those areas are mostly rural agricultural areas. For restaurants it's fast food or sometimes an Applebees in the county seat. Pretty grim in huge swaths of the country.

Exactly. We have some of the world's best restaurants, but plenty of us live in places where the best restaurant in town is a Cracker Barrel.
