Hey /ck/, im cooking dinner for the parents tomorrow night and want to cook them something nice, its winter over here so id like to use some winter produce, what should I cook them?
Could go for a hearty beef stew or casserole, look up various recipes online. Get a cut of beef like chuck or brisket and cube it, then do the same with various vegetables (carrots, turnip, parsnip, onion, garlic). Might want to vary it up when it comes to sauces/spices, could go for a red wine sauce or Moroccan spices, etc.
Otherwise I'd go for a roast vegetable dish. Again using beef, but this time slow cooked using cuts like silverside or topside. Good roast vegetables include carrots, parsnip, potatoes, sweetpotatoes, onion and butternut squash. Could even make a puree/mash out of some of the vegetables.
Make a big pie or multiple smaller ones. Shepherds pie, cottage pie, Cornish pasties, chicken pot-pies. It's all good.

Well, lamb is pretty par for the course as a winter food here, do they like that? If so just cook a nice roast lamb with all the (pube) trimmings.
