What should I add to my first grocery list? I'm unfortunately pretty tight on cash here at college and Boston isn't a cheap place to buy food.

Noodles and Hoisen sauce.

Any specific type? I'm guessing spaghetti wouldn't do
Careful with spices, they are generally expensive.
Check and make sure that the chicken is cheap, too.
For example, chicken is weirdly overpriced here and pork is a much better deal.

Egg noodles are cheap and go with basically everything.

Meh, just buy a whole chicken and watch a youtube video on how to break it down.
You can quite literally do it by hand and you get twice the meat for half the price.
Lentils
they're typically pretty cheap, nutritionally superior to beans, and you don't have to soak them before cooking

Spices/dried herbs you should buy:
Oregano, thyme, rosemary, paprika. You won't need much else unless you really like Indian cuisine.
Buy a bag of lentils too. It's good for soups and stuff.
Cut the peppers out, unless you really love Southeast Asian/Latin American food. You'd be better off buying carrots and celery (which are commonly used by French, Italian, German, Polish, and even Russian cuisine). Bell peppers are nice to get every once in a while to make Spanish or Southern food, although not much of a staple, to be quite honest.
Cut the tuna fish out, unless you really feel like you need to eat it for some reason or another.
Stick to buying chicken breasts and wings. The rest of the chicken is not that useful, to be quite honest.
Also, get a bag of frozen greens (spinach, kale, collards, your choice).
