I've read the back of a box of dry spaghetti, and the instructions said to put oil in so when you pull the pasta out of the water, it prevents it from sticking. I think that's crap, since you should be working the sauce into the pasta after that, but to each their own.

You see, adding a small amount of oil wont actually prevent foam from forming at the top and boiling over. You could add a large amount of oil to the water, but that would just make you a stupid, stupid nigger. Too much oil will lubricate the pasta and keep sauce from sticking to it. So there is no reason to add oil, what you would need is a larger pot and stir the water occasionally. It doesnt take long to cook pasta.
