I found a rare fruit grower in Maui that grows them. Tbh he said they weren't that great and is a novelty.

F'ei bananas seem worthwhile but disease gets them and they take much Ionger to harvest.

got these once out of curiosity. nasty.

now I'm not so sure if I fully believe the rumor on the internet about how the good bananas are all extinct and our bananas today aren't as good

but if they are true, I desperately need millions invested in GMO technology to reproduce the good ones

You don't need GMOs for that. You can still grow/buy older strains of bananas, it's simply that fungal diseases fucked over their large-scale production. Just google it.

...but it's all a matter of personal preference anyway. You might not find the old types to be "better"--more like "different".

the silver bananas I had on madeira were pretty nice, less sweet, a bit more sour than normal bananas, tasted a bit of pineapple
