Are oysters alive when you eat them?

Good!
>>
>>8931344
Yes. Unless they're poached, but they're usually eaten raw and alive. For what ever low value of alive those molluscs are in the first place.
>>
Yes

If they aren't you are going to be sick.

Oysters need to be alive if you eat them or cook them.

That's why it's so expensive if you aren't near the coast.
>>
>>8931344
they are roughly as alive as a raw carrot, which means biologically yes, but not like you imagine when you think about them as animals

Woah dude its like I'm in high school again
>>
>>8931344
Not if you bread and deep-fry them first, which is the best way.
>>
I love oysters but they give me insane stomach cramps after I eat them.

Anyone know a cure? I heard Benadryl helps, but I tried and It didn't for me.

>>8932114
i thought shucking killed them/sent them into near death?

i mean you're literally tearing them open
>>
>>8934911
>i mean you're literally tearing them open
na, your removing a small membrane that connects a muscle to the shell. It's not enough trauma to kill.

Has anyone gotten fresh/never frozen oyster from a supermarket in the midwest? I see them around this time at my Kroger for 60cents a piece and I've often wanted to get a half dozen just to eat before dinner, but something tells me not to.

Sometimes fat Mike does it right...

they don't have brains
>>
>>8936307
Can they even feel pain?
>>
>>8936342

hopefully
>>
>>8934423
Why on earth would you take an antihistamine for a stomach ache?
>>
>>8934952
60 cents a piece in the midwest? I'm surrounded by oyster farms on the east coast and 1 buck a piece is typical for retail/resturaunt.

Do they have a source on where they come from?
>>
>>8931344
What do oysters taste and feel like? I've never tried them because the look pretty disgusting.
>>
>>8936497
slimy and briny, but delicious. Its not for everyone, try fried first.
>>
>>8934423
Drink some alcohol while you're eating them, or get better quality oysters
>>
>>8936497
Like a giant loogie. Pretty gross desu, I don't know why anyone eats them.
>>
>>8931344
No, because oysters die, when they are killed.
>>
>>8936497
taste like an ocean jello shot
>>
>>8932895
but they ARE animals
>>
>>8936882
Just like autists are "people"
>>
>>8936737
Just like humans...maybe we aren't so different after all...
>>
>>8936497
Tastes like a creamy seafood booger.
>>
>tfw you love oysters but everyone thinks they're gross
>sneak off to oyster bar alone and indulge in sweet delicious goodness when i get a craving
>everyone else here likes oysters, judgement free zone
>these are my people.
>>
>>8936497

Texture of snot, taste of seaborne ambrosia. Not for everybody. Give fried oysters a try to see if anything puts you off about the taste. Not the same as raw oysters exactly but a good starting point.
>>
>>8938499
There really is no point in cooking oysters. Just have them raw, and if you like them you do, if you don't you don't and then that's it.
>>
>>8936882
>think about them as animals
>BBUUTT they ARE animuuhls
can you just like read more carefully or something
