Wife and I used to be regulars at the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis.

I order the same coffee/donut combo at Dunkin Donuts down the road from my house daily. I've done this since college, never left the town I ended up in while matriculating. Always drive-thru, for years they just say "drive up, Brian" when it's my turn. Coffee always made correctly (iced, large, vanilla, 2 creams, 2 sugars, light ice) every time.

At a number of places.

There's a pizza place I've been going with friends since high school (14 years ago). I started going less frequently because they got a new oven and it made their pizza less good. Some of the same people still work there and they remember my favorite pizza.

And there's a BBQ place where the owner knows me and a small group of my friends. I always ask him what I should get because he knows what cuts of meat came out best that day. Haven't been in a long time, though.

Also used to be a fucking excellent Mexican place near where me and my brother used to work. The owner knew us by name and always gave us extra shit with our orders. He was an immigrant from Mexico, and his legal name was "Hungry Coyote". Fucking awesome dude.

Also there was a diner nearby that I always used to go to for dinner every Thursday with a friend. We'd sit in the same booth and usually order the same thing. Many times they would start pouring our drinks and have them ready for us as soon as they saw us pull in the parking lot. (They weren't very busy on Thursday evenings). As a matter of fact, they later changed their operating hours so that they closed after lunch... on every day except for Thursday, which is weird. I seriously think they did it just to accommodate us.

I'm a regular at the bar/pizza place/sandwich joint up the street. The owner has three bars in the same basic area so I know most of the people, but I frequent the one specific place after they rebranded my favorite one.

I've been going for about 7 years, and I'm good friends with the bartenders and regulars there. We all go to lunch and dinner and hang out outside of the bar. I get free shit all the time. It's 24 hours, so it's nice to know I pretty much always have a place to get a beer and some food and have a friendly face.

I'm also a regular at the bar by my office, where I'm good pals with the daytime bartender and the happy hour guy. I dated one of the waitresses there. They know some of my coworkers pretty well too.

I'm also kind of a regular at the Rubio's around the corner, but I get my food to go, so no one knows me well enough to consider them a friend or anything.

The employees always gave me extra chicken tendies and fries, and loaded me up with sauce packets more than a normal order.

I was a regular at a 24-hour diner/coffee shop in the early 90s. Back before coffee shops became hipster hangouts, and you could still smoke inside. It was a really nice atmosphere. 10pm-2am 5 days a week for 4 months. Always the same people coming through. Difference ages and incomes. Every smiled and nodded at each other but never talked much. A little unspoken community. It was excellent for relaxing and destressing. The guy who worked there was this gay guy who was always real secretive about his life because I was scared of getting fired. He'd talk in hushed tones about his boyfriend and stuff. He actually did end up losing his job, I heard, but not sure if it was related to him being gay. He was a cool guy.

Back then, it wasn't considered an issue of discrimination. It was about presentation. You wanted your employees to have a certain image. No crazy hair colors, no holes in their face, hair should be clean and near, face clean shaved, clothes should be presentable and tidy -- and no flamboyance. It's hard to describe without coming off as offensive.

i work at a department store and management did a crack down on piercings and blue/purple hair a few months ago. they fired 4 people who had stupid pastel hair that refused to turn it back to a normal color. i don't know the details, they after a few weeks they were all magically back to work and no one would talk about why. i thought it was retarded. people don't want to buy cosmetics at a department store from someone with pink hair, tattoo'd neck, and holes all in their face. its one thing to be fired on the spot without chance to fix the problem, but they were given a chance. that is all that should be legally required.

I was a regular at a hipster bar for several years before I moved. Got to know all the staff that came and went over that time, including the owners.

I eventually figured out what times were the slowest and go there just to shoot the shit with whoever was on duty. Then we'd do a shot together before leaving. It was normally comped, so I end up tipping an extra $5 to make up for it.

Yep, we have several "regular" places where they know us by name when we come in. One is an asian restaurant that serves mostly Vietnamese and also Malay and Indo food. Then there's a taco place that knows us WAY too well, but we haven't been going there recently because the bartender pissed us off last time (just being an obnoxious smartass all night), which is unfortunate, because the owner is a really cool guy, if only he would switch bartenders, since we always sit at the bar to eat there.
And, there's a Thai place where they don't know our names, but they recognize us everytime we come in.
Oh, and this isn't a restaurant, but there's two grocery stores nearby where the employees know us by name and always stop and chat with us when we're in there.
