What is /ck/ drinking tonight?
>tonight
It's only 11:30 A.M.
>>8925876
this atm
>>8925901
and, how is it?
I'd like to know!
>>8925901
had one of these earlier
pretty different. like it
very smokey
>>8925915
very nice
it's described on the bottle as having rich english malts and a generous amount of american hops, and pretty much tastes as you would imagine
can't really go wrong with this brewery in my experience
This. A lot less hoppy than surly hell so I find it much more drinkable. I still like surly hell, but I can't pound through a 4 pack of those while I can kill a 6 pack of this stuff easy.
Not my picture
>drinking the liquid jew
Good goy
>>8925901
>>8925916
this was my other treat for the night
i'm an ausfag and have never heard of this brewery before. i thought the label was pretty cool and fancied a red so i bought it
it's another good one, more fruity and less hoppy than most aussie red ales i've had
>>8925876
Gonna be drinking this tonight. It's alright, but not spectacular.
>>8925876
picked up a 4pack of this yesterday... looking forward to it
>>8925935
Looks like discount orange juice
>>8925935
That is a really cloudy pint. No fining?
>>8925876
Feeling poor right now.
>4/10 Smell
>5/10 Taste
The Head foams like a motherfucker
>>8925995
>Gluten free
I'm so sorry.
>>8925941
>>8925957
relatively new trend in american beer... the North East style IPA. low-flocc yeast, lots of oats/wheat for more haze, and minimal cold crashing. no fining or filtering at all. result looks like this, from hazy to muddy.
the trend is away from bitterness and more towards body and a soft mouthfeel, with huge tropical/fruity aromatics and flavor. alvarado street, cellarmaker, moonraker, track 7, and lots more in northern california are making hazy IPAs.
>>8926011
It's super sweet, more like a wheat beer (despite being gluten fucking free).
Altogether it's cheap and cheerful.
Not many places to get good beer round here except Oakham's and Adnam's.
>>8926037
just FYI the flavor you associate with "wheat beer" is almost guaranteed to be from the yeast. it has very little to do with wheat, and gluten free grains wouldn't make a difference
The most grandeur of lagers, the chief premium.
Oak cask Milwaukee's Best reserve 2017 double char premium hopped steel cut wheat, aged for 10 days.
The beer has a light flavor, quite palatable, if not enjoyable. It has a bitter, oaky finish that can best be described as "microgreens on foam." The royal hops are quite pristine, rounding out the steel cut wheat flavor, which comes through nicely. All in all a great beer, with a light finish. Great mouthfeel.
2/10
>>8926083
Does the plastic bottle add anything to the brew? Unique presentation
>>8926094
I always demonized it but lately they've been the exact same as glass 40s. But not clear glass.
>>8925876
i know you said beer, but i picked up a couple bottles of this stuff earlier- wonderful
>>8926106
I actually used to buy OE once in awhile, but since they switched to plastic I stopped. Luckily high life and Budweiser still come in glass near me.
>>8926110
>13%
Yeah, that's beer still.
>>8926114
If you had to haul all your beer, water and food 250 stairs up to your house, you'd switch to plastic too.
>>8926120
I have an elevator
>>8926120
that's what cans are for
Pretty nice ipa!
Who /PA/ here? We have the mightiest IPA's in all of the land, hands down.
>>8926116
It's not, but it's really tasty.
Not sure what point you're trying to make with your 13% comment. I've never had a 13% beer. Had plenty of ~13 wines though.
>>8926135
is that a motherfucking Simon reference?
>>8926143
I do believe it is!
>>8926138
Gross
>>8926124
>create elevator
>go down 150 feet
>end up in coal mine
>exit coal mine
>still in a coal mine
What did he mean by this?
>>8926155
Where are you from and why are all of your IPA's inferior to ours? Not only that but we have the best selection of regional and national beers of any state around.
>>8926169
I'm on the other side of the PA line and ipas are fucking GROSS.
>>8926169
Pa is on the backside of this hill. Bad place.
>>8926182
That's big talk coming from a sister fucking West Virginian
>>8926162
Are you drunk or high?
>>8925876
OP, with the best fucking drink. Well done OP.
>>8926218
That's okay bud my family is from West Virginia too, I understand. I like this side of the mountain much more though. You'd think West Virginia would be a paradise for food but alas, it is not. You guys can't even get raw milk over there
>>8926223
Can't get shit. I was born in baltimore though
Another very tasty ipa.
Very refreshing, I might pick up a couple more of these over the summer.
Nothing, may go to the beer shop to pick up the new Cloudwater DIPA though, if it hasn't sold out already.
So, what's some good beer I can just pick up at Total Wine or BevMo? I like beer, but not enough to drive across the state or the country to wait in line for hours just for a beverage. I like IPAs and DIPAs, but I also like easier drinking stuff like pilsner and weissbier
>find a high-rated beer on Beer Advocate
>only distributed in a 30 mile radius on the opposite side of the country
Heady Topper is probably delicious, but hell if I'll ever know
anyone here ever brewed their own beer or thinks about doing it?
Would love to read some stories.
>>8926383
Anything local
>>8926383
where do you live?
>>8926404
I saw a bunch of Mr. Beer kits at Goodwill once. I should have bought one.
>>8926437
Southern California
I know there's a bunch of breweries in San Diego, but that's far.
>>8926383
What's your stance on darker brews or Belgians?
In my experience you can't really go wrong with anything from Sam Smith, the taddy Porter is especially good as well as their chocolate Stout. Rochefort is a great Belgian that's always available at my local Total wine though I'm not sure if that'd be the case where you are.
Beyond that, I'd honestly just recommend talking to the employees. I know the people who work at my local store are actually pretty knowledgeable and can usually give decent recommendations. Figure out if one of the guys there has similar tastes and look for them whenever you go.
>>8926313
Followed up by the amped up version! Citra overdose, no alcohol on the nose or the taste makes this one dangerous.
>>8926383
I mostly drink local brews but as far as west coat IPA's go I'm a big fan of terrapin and Elysian. I can find them easily over here in PA so you can definitely pick them up no problem out there on the west coast.
This is the greatest thing I've ever tasted.
>>8925876
thanks op, you just reminded me that i have one of these in my fridge
>>8926652
And then a Amager one. They really have a taste going on for them, that follows in this one! Good beer.
>>8925876
I'm planning to buy one or two bottles and keep them in the cellar for a year or two. Is that a good idea?
Bought a mini keg of Bell's Oberon today
Cracked open one of these earlier, debating whether or not to do one more. I also picked up some super session #2 which I haven't tried yet.
A virtual planetoid
Pink lemonade margarita I bought from Kroger last week

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA for me tonight
Coming back around to IPAs. Starting with this gem.
>>8928051
I've been meaning to try that.
I've had 90 minute, and it was great.
>>8928081
Hops do subside giving way to the more subtle flavors of the beer, which is why stouts are the primary aging beers, but trappists are memes that you shouldn't waste your time on.
Oh also brett shit ages well
>>8928101
>but trappists are meme
I like Chimay blue, I think it's good.
>>8925876
A great tasting, less filling light beer by Miller.
>>8928115
I like Chimay as well, but most trappists I've had have extremely unremarkable. Especially compared to all the other great Belgian beers out there
>>8928150
Have been*
Collective Arts IPA#2, pic related. Excellent Ontarian beer.
Also have a pack of Beau's had a hopfenweisse and an IPA(I drink IPAs once it starts getting good and warm) and then some hellesbier. Tomorrow is a new day, will be rainy and cold so I'll probably get some of the very last stouts of the year til november.
>bumfuck interior brewing
a nice porter but I cannot taste the maple
Fuckbroke and trying to cut down. I'll be making an awesome screwdriver shortly; I've been crystallizing and breaking up the orange juice over and over.
>>8925876
Nice $16 4 pack you have there.
>>8926724
fucker. they stopped selling in WA a few years ago. one of my favorite breweries. amazing beer.
>>8926362
Imposter!
Spotted Cow is only in Wisconsin!
>>8927949
>Corona Extra
let us know how it was
>>8928115
Don't worry, trappists aren't memes.
>>8925876
No better feeling than being able to drink a 40 of steel reserve malt liquor on Tuesday and drink another on Wednesday night because you get paid Thursday and than grab a 4 pack of fine imperial style brews to impress both the low and highbrow connasuier's of this board. You need to post guns, liquor and fine rolled tobbaco to get my upvote, good sir.
What styles are you guys into lately?
>>8928461
One of my first favorite beers. I want to eat at their brewery.
There's some Muslim-only bathrooms you can go in that just have holes in the floor.
I can't abide all these hopped up IPA's
>>8925876
one of these because they're cheap and remind me of the real thing
>mu culture
>>8928081
but it literally does
>>8928862

every pale ale or IPA Toppling Goliath does is excellent
It's 10am. But it's also Saturday so I'm fine

Why is the text in a Hebrew style if it's called "Swami's"?
>>8930236

>>8925882
He said tonight, not this morning, retard.
Got pic related and a 6% pale ale of theirs in the fridge.
Soon tbqh
love this, the 10 is great as well.
>tfw you live in San Diego and the beer is everwhere
>>8925901
I had the anniversary one. Was one of the best I ever had.
Bought 10x pack of these
How are they?
3 drinks in to this from a growler. Pretty decent, mild beer. I'm buzzed and listening to loud music.
>>8925876
The IPAs are gone, I ended up just having a Corona with a lime.
I'm going to buy some Presidente next time I go to grab anything.
trying this tonight
Haven't had a stone product in years
>>8931735
That design makes it look like cooking wine
>>8930876
Official beer of Ghost. He drinks the optimator though which has a higher alcohol %
Has anyone tried Hopdevil? What's surprising is that, despite its name, it doesn't taste super hoppy. Its actually less bitter than most IPAs and is pretty damn tasty.
Damn this shit it good
>>8928150
What about trappist 'brett shit'?
>>8928259
>Fernie
That's my hometown! Not a fan of their IPA but I love the Brown Ale. I haven't tried that one though.
>>8931797
I bought a six pack of that last weekend. It's ok just tastes the same as any other mainstream American IPA.
Delicious.
had this last night, its my favourite tripel so far out of the ones i've tried
>get excited about amerifats finally making good beer
>go into specialist store and buy two dozen different bottles
>half of them are cookie cutter mediocre hopbomb IPAs
>a quarter is unapologetically flavored with some additive shit
>all of them named by some overzealous edgy 5 year old on Ritalin
>5 bottles are actually really good
>3 of them are copypasta from belgian beers
So... This is the power of american... Craft brewing.
>>8932836
I started a /beer/ thread a couple weeks ago with a pic of my recent haul, and I got a four pack of tk with that exact glass.
IRL the glass is a giant goblet, that's taller than the bottle. Kind of silly to drink out of, but the beer is amazing, and if they want you to drink it out of a snifter that's only a quarter full (sans head) I figured why not.
What's the deal with quality Belgian beers needing to do gimmicky glassware (I'm looking at you, Kwak)?
>>8932860
>I'm looking at you, Kwak
first time i had that i ordered it off a list of beers in a belgian themed pub, having never heard of it before... got quite the shock
>>8932818
I love that beer but God damn it's expensive
GOAT
>>8928936
kys
>>8932860
Kwak and Karmeliet are by the same brewery so it might be common to that.
>>8932860
The trick with Tripel Karmeliet, especially when you're pouring it from a draft, is to get the foam starting at the tip of the fleur-de-lis on the glass. It's a handful, especially if the stuff's on sale at my local bar - pouring several glasses after each other is quite challenging. Also, people get hella drunk on that stuff, since it tastes pretty light (for a tripel).
>>8932864
Fun fact: Pauvel Kwak originally ran an inn for coachmen. Since they couldn't just leave their coach and horses alone and go sit at the bar, Pauvel designed a glass that they could mount to their coach. He also designed it so that it had a sphere on the end, which lowered the centre of gravity - pretty important if you're riding on a stiffly sprung coach, making sharp turns. To use the same glassware in his inn, they eventually also made the wooden stand that accompanies the modern Kwak glassware. Because of all this, this type of glassware is known as a ''koetsiersglas'' or coachman's glass.
Drunk driving at it's finest!
Tip: drink carefully with those glasses. Once you get to the end, the sphere will try to empty itself rapidly, and you'll get a faceful of Kwak if you're not careful. What hilarious about that is that kwak is slang for sperm here in the Netherlands/Belgium.
>>8932969
>The trick with Tripel Karmeliet, especially when you're pouring it from a draft, is to get the foam starting at the tip of the fleur-de-lis on the glass
Turns out I took a pic... guess I did it right.
The head dies after a minute, btw.
>>8932975
>The head dies after a minute, btw.
If your glassware is disgustingly dirty, yes.
If you pour it right in a clean glass, it'll stand for as long as fifteen minutes, as any proper Belgian beer should. Your foam is way too coarse, indicating both a slow pour and a dirty glass.
>>8932982
>both a slow pour and a dirty glass
The glass was clean, but I definitely poured it slowly.
>and here i get people calling me a beer snob every so frequently simply for enjoying the things I like
>>8932985
As long as it tastes fine, nobody cares. The point with most Euro beers is that the head actually prevents the beer itself from oxidising, which can make a lot of them taste too bitter. If it tastes right, you shouldn't care. Pouring it a bit more quickly should give you a finer foam though.
There's a difference between visually clean, and so clean that a head will stand on it for several minutes. Try coating a glass with just a hint of olive oil, for example, and it'll die within seconds - despite being visually clean.
