Is that one of those joke foods that you eat just for nostalgia and laughs? Every culture has that but they are usually fish based. Stargazy pie, lutefisk, gefilte fish, and so on.

no, it's actually good

Kinda, it's tasty once in a while but rather fatty. Tourists think it's typical German food but actually Germans don't eat it that much. It's a southern Germany thing and even there most people wouldn't eat it more than 2 or 3 times a year.

Are Germans really this homogenous? I think of the stereotypical American foods of fast food burger and Coca Cola in a similar way since I only eat and drink those about 2-3 times a year, same with most people I know. But from this board I can tell that many people in America, perhaps those in a different social class than I, eat them so regularly that a slight change in a fast food menu gives them an anxiety attack.
Maybe there are some Germans who eat that stuff every day while dressed in lederhosen (or whatever) and raving about how the Jews need to be exterminated?

Being homogenous is the least of germans` worries today :)

>Germans really this homogenous?
Obviously not, maybe there are some people who have it every week, others don't eat it at all. I was talking about a rough estimated average.
It's far less common than burgers in America anyway.
Oh and, beer is the typical drink with this, not juice.

Lutefisk is good

Nah. There is food which is popular all across Germany, like Currywurst, Schnitzel, Döner, Mett, Bratkartoffeln etc.
However, there is also a shit ton of regional cousine which you can really only find in a few regions.

It's just a braised pork shank, right? What's the big deal, we have that in the US as well. Often ours our smoked first.
