Treehouse's lineup and other New England milkshake IPA's have been the current whale beers for a while.

KBS is seriously for faggots.

Fuck off OP, kill yourself.
>>
>>8854976
Why? Because it's popular?
>>
>>8854976
I was into the bourbon barrel meme for awhile and I've had enough to determine KBS really isn't that good
>>
>>8855371
Last year's was pretty great. The thickness and richness of breakfast stout mixes extremely well with the bourbon. It's not the best bba beer I've had but it's certainly up there.
That being said I prefer to drink regular breakfast stout. It's just easier and not as draining on my wallet. If I want great barrel aged beer for a reasonable price I will get something from central waters. All their beer is pretty damn good
>>
>>8854976
Treehouse is garbage. I am so tired of these meme New England breweries who get their reputation simply from bottlenecking the distribution which makes it impossible to get for anyone that doesn't live here. This results in some kind of exclusivity facade which gets compounded by BeerAdvocate neckbeard shills to create what people think is an esteemed brewery/beer but is actually highly overrated. The same applies for Alchemist. The same applies for Trillium although I think Trillium is better than all of the above

>>8854240
OP your haul is mediocre. I will give you credit for the KBS and the Alesmith. I'll give you a little credit for the Karmeliet although it's a bit of the cop out. The rest of your beers just reek of meme reddit picks predicated on whether or not the label has IPA written on it and how creative the art looks.

Anyways, I would like to take this moment to remind you all that the whole 'craft beer' scene is nothing short of a Soros funded operation to placate the masses and convert them to liberal numale traps. Just go look at who has the biggest stake in the Hops distributors, a proven compound with estrogenic properties. Real men drink Whiskey. If you're going to be beta and drink craft beer, just do us alpha males a favor and finish your transition so we have something to F*ck

At this point, I'm basically operating under the assumption that I've tried so many beers that it's not worth it to try to go out and find a favorite. I used to, but honestly I've given up. the type of beer matters way more than the exact beer. like with the IPA's, I used to love them and would buy packs that are 100% IPAs. Now there are days where I'd take a stout I never even tried before over my favorite IPA.
>tfw my tastes change so rapidly I don't even have a favorite style of beer anymore

>>8857916
The stout is the only thing they make that I don't like. It's so strange, and a complete outlier.

>>8857920
I think the main reason I like those beers so much is that they only make a few small batches a year. I get you with the specific types though, I tend to gravitate towards fruity sours, but even then my tastes are all over the mal even within the day I buy the beer.
>>
>>8857935
>I tend to gravitate towards fruity sours
I literally cannot find a sour anywhere near me. went to a microbrewery in Nashville and they told me sours are getting popular again, but I can't find sours anywhere.

Is there a "best beer" to drink that is low on calories but isnt awful? I genuinely dont know.

Seems most lite beers either taste like shit, dont have enough alcohol in them to be worth drinking anyway, or are still pretty cal/carb heavy.

I guess its oxymoronic to want a low cal beer, but I just want a drink to drink that wont kill me if Im near my 2000limit.
>>
>>8858143
>best beer
well that's just totally subj-
>low cal
there are none. maybe mich ultra
>>
>>8858166
It seems like all the lowest cal beers, Miller64, MichUltra, etc, have barely enough alcohol in them to get a baby drunk.

Id have to drink like 8 or more micultra's to feel anything.

Should I just say fuck it and get the regular shit?
>>
>>8858172
switch to liquor if you want bang for your buck.
the best low-cal drink I have is club soda + good liquor + a citrus juice like lime or lemon
good booze means you don't have to mask it's flavor with sweet mixers

>>
I mean, i have people to share them with, but most of the time faggots want to just get drunk and can't appreciate the flavor of a fine ale or cant even drink stouts 'cause they are "too strong", also i get them beers in 6 or 12 packs so for each of them i already drank at least 5 more.
>>
what are really tasty beers? preferrably higher than 6% ABV. And for refernece I tried Sculpin and hated it so probably not a fan of those intense IPAs
>>
How the fuck did they still have KBS on the shelf?
>>
>>8858143

Alcohol is straight up empty calories, and there's no way around that.

The alcohol in beer comes from fermented malted grains (mostly barley), and the more grains they use, the more fermentable sugars there are going to be, which means that a lower ABV beer is going to tend to have less calories, but also less flavor.

If you want to drink well but still watch your calories the only option is to drink in moderation. All so-called "lite" beers are utter shit, and only make you drink more of them to get the same effect without the good taste of real beer.

Just find something you like and only drink as much as your diet allows. Quality over quantity.
>>
>>8857048
Whats with people trying to force the flyover meme into beer threads the last week or so? It makes literally no sense to bring up in a beer thread when the vast majority of good beer is from these areas
New York and LA are way the fuck behind the curve when it comes to beer

>>
>>8858337
this was for >>8858306

>>8858344 try duvels, they are 8,5%, i recommend getting one and waiting at least 2 months to let it ferment so the beer aquires a richer, softer taste while keeping it's high alcoholic value given the fact that the beer is prepared to get a bit more fermented while on the bottle, you may notice some stuff on the bottom of said bottle but don't worry, that gives the beer body, drink on a beer glass, it's gold.
>>
>>8858363

Anyone who thinks the best beer in the country comes from California doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about (San Diego can't pull them out of the giant gutter that is LA). The best beer is from inland New England and the upper midwest/Colorado. The PNW is the early adopter, was the leader in the 90s, is just fine now

New York and LA are the primary non-flyover places and both are well below average for beer

>>
>>8858499
not really, but I haven't heard much about it. the whole country is producing god tier beer. we're basically in the dead center of the greatest time and place in the history of ever for craft beer.

notice eurofags never post in these threads? its because their craft beer is piss. Went there for a month and a half and sampled every beer I could. I even like their whole "flat beer" thing and a British pint of Guinness is fucking bomb, but 9 out of 10 beers I had were just objectively worse and like 2% less alcohol content across the board
>>

>>8858612
Flyover is particularly great when it comes to beer. Even a coastie biased website like Beer Advocate is dominated by midwestern beer

Any northern part of the country is amazing at beer though whether it is New England, the Great Lakes or the Northwest. Each of those three regions alone beats the entirety of Europe
>>
>>8858612

I think its just that greater Inland North culture, but also climate related. People in colder climates drink more in general, plus they are more educated so the drink better stuff

eat a dick fat tire is good. also I can find it everywhere on tap and it's better than most on tap shit.
>>8859007
maybe its the hops. is the aftertaste like an IPAs?
Jager is bomb in rootbeer and mountain dew. usually go for other liquor first
>>
>>8858380
I recommend collecting beers that actually have good shelf life. Most of what is on that shelf is not going to keep long and will taste like shit. Stick with sours, stouts, barelywines, things with higher abv. IPAs should be drank ASAP and not sit around.
>>
>>8859021
No not really. I dont know enough about beer to explain what i'm tasting. IPAs taste more.. sour? this has like a ..burnt? taste to it. like smokey or something idk.
>>
>>8859029

>IPAs should be drank ASAP and not sit around

This is my number one beer advice to anyone new to beer, and it always confused me that 120 minute is meant to be aged.
>>
Not too bad. I didn't like KBS as much this year though.

Picked this up over the weekend and got to try a pour on the way out. Pretty damn good.
>>
>>8858143

Guinness bud, not even memeing you its actually very low cal
>>
>>8859036
malty maybe? no idea.
>>
>>8859046

I didn't realize that they aged maple syrup in barrels.
>>
>>8859050

You're thinking hoppy - the counter-point to malty.
>>
>>8859041
120 min is more barleywine than IPA, so its ok with aging
>>
>>8859056
really?
I'm not thinking hoppy though, since IPA's are hoppy
>>
>>8859046
Had that on tap the other day. Central Waters has one of the best barrel aging programs in the country. Every single thing I have tried from them that is barrel aged is top tier
>>
>>8859053
Not all maple syrup is.
In this case they used bourbon barrels that had previously been used to age Central Water's BB Stout to age the syrup in for a year, then CW made a new imperial stout to age in those same barrels after the syrup was bottled (though with a significant amount left behind in the barrels). Or something like that, I am going off memory

B&Es Trees is what the syrup company is called

I think I misread your post; I'm a little drunk.

Fat tire is pretty light, though, so malty probably isn't the term you're going for.
>>
>>8859078

That sounds like it could be pretty good.
>>
>>8859079
thats not me that said malty he's just trying to help me find the words.
My impression of fat tire is that its drinkable but i'm not enjoying it a whole lot. Might be a little too advanced for me.
>>
>>8857916
I used to be an ABV queen when I was younger too.

Now I appreciate breweries who can make tasty stuff but keep it down, very useful when I'm driving.
>>
>>8859944
this is a 10/10 troll post. post something reasonable and then drop a bomb at the end. ideally have it be the last word of the post.
>>
>>8857813
not enough edgy dragons and swear words, huh?
>>
>>8859949
Sorry, I meant to say getting drunk and then driving is totally rad and cool.
>>
>>8859966
I like how you're going with this "it's totally reasonable to drive after drinking, as long as you're just buzzed and not wasted maaaan"

how's this for an idea: call a goddamm taxi, you fucking degenerate

but hey it's probably a cultural thing, where I'm from bars don't have parking lots because we're not insane
>>
>>8859971
Do you not know that there's a legal limit to how much you can drink?
>>
>>8859974
did you not know that the limit varies per jurisdiction and in some places driving after any amount of drinking is not acceptable?

do you not find it even a little bit odd that the pilot of a commercial aircraft will get drawn and quartered for stepping onto a plane with beer breath, but the pilot of a perfectly deadly 5,000 pound motorized wheelchair gets a free pass at committing atrocities because "I totally drive better after a few cold ones"?
>>
>>8859980
>did you not know that the limit varies per jurisdiction and in some places driving after any amount of drinking is not acceptable?
Of course. Why are you assuming that applies to me? Where I live to say under the limit you can drink 2 standard drinks in the first hour then 1 every hour after that. If that makes you feel even slightly buzzed then I don't know what to say.

I'll ignore the second sentence because it doesn't apply to anything I've said.

>I'll ignore stuff that doesn't fit my agenda
>I totally drive best after a few cold ones! steadies the ol' nerves LOL
more degenerate talk

I don't expect you to be in any way susceptible to reason, but I'm still appalled that people like you are allowed to exist
>>
>>8859997
Sorry for using facts and addressing your arguments, I forgot where we are.

Ausfag?
I'm jelly of the euros that get to have a bac of 0.08 or even higher.
>>

>using facts
I like how you changed to that after proudly claiming you ignore facts

the effects of long-term alcohol abuse are sad to see. if the drinking age was lowered people would have a healthier relationship with ethanol but sadly many people grow up like you, trying to "prove" that you can "handle" yourself by getting liquored up and then driving home and killing someone. oopsie! he totally came outta nowhere! the driver is the real victim here, it could have happened to anyone really
>>
>>8860019
>Ausfag
Yep - where are you from? US?
>>
>tfw very big guy but super lightweight
>drank 2 bombers in a half hour, blew under an hour and a half later but was definitely not good to drive

An absolutely bizarre feel
>>
Define being a "heavy drinker" in terms of frequency of and intensity of drinking
Also define "drinking in moderation" in those terms
>>
>>8859996
Overrated
>>
>>8860164
It's not overrated, it's just widely available so there is no exclusivity factor to it which is where breweries like Tree House/Alchemist/Trillium get their fame/notoriety from. Same goes for any of the Rocheforts or Arrogant Brewing beers. Easily GOAT beers but no one cares because of how widely available they are and people being the stupid blind liberal numale beta sheep take the bait every time on exclusivity
