Hey, so I'm living in an apartment while I'm in college. I am having really hard time creating a budget and finding meals that I can cook. I know how to cook but everything that I make goes bad before I can finish eating any of it.

Most prepared meals only last a week in the fridge.

Freezer pretty much allow you to keep food for over a year - but freezer space is precious real estate.

IKEA sells small jars of seasoned herrings, also the seasoning individually, I just brought a jar of sweet mustard and dill sauce that I'm going to use on my canned fish.>>8792307

Collegefag here and I struggle with this too.

I still struggle on creating "one off meals." (to be frank if anybody had some suggestions for something pretty quick to make that isn't eggs or whatever I'd love to know). But I recommend stir frying anon. For me, it's a quick 15-20 minute meal that lets you get in whatever veggies + protein you have laying around and get a nice delicious tasting meal. Check this out for sauce recs http://www.fortysomething.ca/2012/05/15_basic_stir_fry_sauce_recipes.php (Just be sure to add a pinch of corn starch so the sauce thickens when you add it to your skillet). I've been buying frozen veggies a lot because I can literally just pull them out and have a nice delicious meal.

Don't be afraid to make something with leftovers. Soups/Curry fridge well and freeze well, and considering all these things tend to be (well curry not necessarily) is some broth, spices, and a collection of whatever you have laying around, it's an excellent thing to have.

Shop around at different stores. I make the effort of going to walmart for protein because it has the best prices most of the time and i'm more likely to find meat on sale. Just picked up some center cut porks for like 3 bucks less than usual. Just wrap it in some freezer paper and toss it in the freezer.

Also potatoes. Btw I follow budgetbytes, food is usually pretty easy to make and light on the wallet.

Although anon from one college fag struggling financially to another let me tell you this: It's worth it to invest a tad into your diet. Don't feel bad spending a little more on your groceries to get some good stuff, especially if you are eating healthy. There are worse things to spend an extra 10-20 a week on. I average anywhere from 40-60 a week depending on things.
