Misophonia and Eating

My dad is a loud chewer, kind of bugs me but I handle it. I brought it up to him one time and I felt like an asshole afterwards so Ive never mentioned it again

My mother's always had hangups about listening to people chew or slurp or make any kind of eating noise.

She said she felt relieved to learn this was a thing other people had too, and that she wasn't going crazy.

I remember hearing they've done studies that show people with misophonia actually have the emotional center in their brain light up when they hear sounds that set them off.

I have misophonia but instead of eating sounds it's sniffling and throat clearing. Gives me anxiety chest pain and makes me yell at people. Apparently there is specific therapy for people with reactions as severe as yours.

I just get really angry while eating with my family then afterwards I just have to go lie down

I don't have any food or eating related misophonia, but I definitely understand the difference between the usual annoyance or disgust that people might experience when hearing gross mouth sounds and actual misophonia.

Mine is triggered by whispering. I grew up not understanding why it made me unreasonably angry. I only learned about it a few years ago.

There are a lot of words for people who complain loudly about things that may mildly irritate anyone, I just group them together as 'being an asshole'
