How do you guys make your slaw?
Every time I make it at home it always comes out bland as hell, or too vinegary (and I love vinegar). It's never as good as what I get when I eat out at BBQ's places or even diners.

I buy pre shredded cabbage and just mix it up w mayo salt sugar vinegar spices. I never really measure just add a little bit at a time till its good
Funny, I was just thinking I should make some slaw today. Monitoring thread for interest.
I've never made it, how do I get those super thin carrot slices? I could cut them with a knife, but they'd be thicker (not a huge fan of that in salads) or I could use a grater but then it probably wouldn't look as good.

>but they'd be thicker
so cut them thinner?

>Mayo
You're doing it wrong.

Not a grater, spend a little on a mandolin cutter. Cuts uniformly thin slices/ grates/ shreds, makes you feel really professional. I use mine for slicing potatoes for dauphinois , meats, all sorts of stuff, just be careful and watch your thumb - I've nearly shortened mine a few times.

What do you use then?
what vinegar do you use?
apple cider is good
i think fresh pepper at the perfect grind (not too fine, not too coarse) is pretty key too
Celery seed.
Slaw without celery seed is just wet cabbage.
I make vinegar based slaws. I also tend to use about half the amount of sugar in most recipes.

Take veg mix, add mayo, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, and celery seeds. You can make the mayo coating in a separate bowl to get desired consistency. Simple stuff.

Rice or balsamic, depending on what im having it with

salt+suger+pepper+vinegar+oil+parsley

Use apple cider vinegar and replace 1/2 the mayo with sour cream. Godly.

This guy gets it, though I'll use caraway instead of celery seed a lot of the time. I like caraway.
