isn't that backwards though? I can get a fairly consistent grind with my skerton on fine, but at coarse there are a ton of fines along with boulders
>>
>>8635412
That's exactly what I just said.

>it takes an expensive electric to be better than a skerton, unless you grind coarse. (because cheap electric grinders will potentially grind coarse as well as if not better than an unmodded skerton)

That all being said and seemingly understood, you can just get a cheap upgrade for a skerton for great coarse grind. Why you'd grind so coarse is beyond me, not even presses should be made that coarse.

>>it takes an expensive electric to be better than a skerton, unless you grind coarse. (because cheap electric grinders will potentially grind coarse as well as if not better than an unmodded skerton)
What? You're contradicting yourself. I'm saying in my experience, a skerton (in my case it happens to be modded, but I tried it without the mod) gives a tolerably consistent fine grind, but an intolerably inconsistent coarse grind. Are you trying to say a cheap electric would somehow excel at coarse grinds? In other words a coarse grind would be perfectly consistent particle size?

>>
>>8635597
I don't get how you don't understand when I spelled it out for you.

We have both agreed a skerton's weak point is its coarse grind. What I'm saying is that a cheap electric grinder will grind coarse as well or better than a skerton, but to grind a fine grind as well as a skerton, you need to spend ~$150+ on an electric.
>>
>>8635665
you said:
>it takes about $150 invested into an electric burr grinder for it to be better than a skerton. Unless you grind extremely coarsely.
which implies that a cheaper electro will grind coarsely well and finely poorly

so what you're saying is, a cheap burr electro burr grind is no good unless I dirnk french press, which I don't
>>
>>8635675
Actually the only implication there is that a cheap electric grinder will perform better than a skerton for coarse. Nowhere does it imply that a cheap grinder is -good- for coarse.

But yeah, a grind that coarse is negligible in most regards. Skerton is great, hard to beat on a budget.

>"expresso"
expresso is the proper definition of the technique used to brew coffee, in a very fast way. That's why the espresso machine was constructed for,
to brew coffee fast, in express way.

I always thought that the term was espresso (as in ES), but it turns out I’m wrong.
The correct terminology for ordering my intense caffeine fix is not Espresso, but rather EXpresso (like expressway).

"expresso" is the French form, "espresso" is the Italian one.

"espresso" is from the Italian verb esprimere, which is a corruption of the Latin verb "exprimere".
So, if anything, "expresso" is more correct because that's more close to the word's Latin origin.

YES I WILL PROVIDE YOU SOME

dark roasted beans have no flavor at all, except flavor of burned charred asphalt

There is a very good reason why roasting houses roast coffee beans to a dark roast level.
Lowest quality beans are roasted to dark roast level, because they taste like shit if roasted to medium roast level.
So to deal with it and still sell the low quality coffee beans at the same price as the much better quality beans that are roasted to blond or medium roast level,
the "coffee geniuses" come up with this cleaver trick to roast the hell out of the beans (making them poisonous at the same time, giving you cancer)
but that dark roast level gives the "uniformity" in taste, because at that dark roast level all coffee beans taste the same - they all taste like tar.
And the nice complexity of flavors and all the oils and the sugars all that is good in coffee is burned is charred in dark roasts.

Coffee is the only product that you can take lowest quality of it that normally should be sold at much lower price per pound
and by dark roasting process you trick customers to pay the same price per pound as the higher quality product.
And as a bonus you are getting charred coffee beans that were proven by scientist to cause cancer.

So there you go next time when you forking out your money on dark roast coffee beans think about what you just read.
It's a little dirty secret that coffee industry hates to talk about.

just so you know drinking coffee first thing in the morning on a empty stomach is VERY VERY fucking unhealthy
coffee is very acidic, so without any food in your stomach first when you get coffee in your stomach
you will be destroying your stomach lining and as a first symptom you will get ulcers and next stage will be cancer.
I would definitely eat something first or at least drink coffee while eating breakfast.

Don't be stupid man. Many people ruined their health but they were not made aware about it before, nobody told them.

Most of us tend to instantly look for a coffee and drink it first thing in the morning.
In fact, most people often drink coffee in the morning before eating breakfast despite big health risk of getting ulcers and cancer
by drinking coffee on an empty stomach.
>>
>>8638341
>coffee is very acidic, so without any food in your stomach first when you get coffee in your stomach you will be destroying your stomach lining and as a first symptom you will get ulcers and next stage will be cancer.
I doubt that has much to do with the acidity of coffee. Your stomach acid is orders of magnitude more acidic than coffee. Coffee has a pH of around 5 (though there's great variance depending on roast level) while orange juice for example has a pH of about 3 and your stomach acid ranks at about pH 1. There does seem to be evidence that something about coffee stimulates the secretion of stomach acid and leads to increased acitidy this way, which can lead to symptoms like heartburn and possibly gastric damage. Having some food in your stomach likely alleviates the symptoms of increased stomach acid production.
>>
>>8638362
Your stomach acids would literally melt your insides and kill you if they weren't contained by the mucus in your stomach lining.
Coffee doesn't do shit.
>>
>>8638341

ulcers are a bacterial infection, you idiot.

>Coffee has a pH of around 5 (though there's great variance depending on roast level) while orange juice for example has a pH of about 3 and your stomach acid ranks at about pH 1.
So you see you are contradicting your own words.
Coffee has 5 and stomach is only 1. Coffee is much stronger.

not exactly that simple grasshopper,if your stomach lining is destroyed (by coffee in this case) that will start ulcers.
read this before you start your hysterical opposition to medical science:
Gastritis.
http://www.healthline.com/health/gastritis#Overview1

Gastritis is inflammation of the protective lining of the stomach.
Acute gastritis involves sudden, severe inflammation, while chronic gastritis involves long-term inflammation that can last for years if it’s left untreated.
A less common form of the condition, erosive gastritis, typically doesn’t cause much inflammation but can lead to bleeding and ulcers in the lining of the stomach.

What Causes Gastritis?
Weakness in your stomach lining allows digestive juices to damage and inflame it, causing gastritis.
Having a thin or damaged stomach lining raises your risk for gastritis. Also, certain conditions and activities increase your risk for developing gastritis.

A gastrointestinal bacterial infection can cause gastritis.
The most common is infection with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that infects the lining of the stomach.
It’s usually passed from person-to-person, but it can also be transmitted through contaminated food or water.

Other risk factors include:
-extreme alcohol consumption
-routine use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin
-cocaine use
-age, because the stomach lining thins naturally with age

Other, less common, risk factors are:
-stress caused by severe injury, illness, or surgery
-autoimmune disorders
-digestive disorders like Crohn’s disease
-viral infections

Symptoms
Gastritis doesn’t cause noticeable symptoms in everyone, but the most common symptoms are:
-nausea and vomiting
-a feeling of fullness in your upper abdomen, particularly after eating
-indigestion
-If you have erosive gastritis, you might experience different symptoms, including:
-black, tarry stool
-vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Stomach (Gastric) Ulcer
http://patient.info/health/stomach-gastric-ulcer

Understanding your gut and digestion
Food passes down the gullet (oesophagus) into the stomach.
The stomach makes acid which is not essential, but helps to digest food. After being mixed in the stomach, food passes into the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum).
In the duodenum and the rest of the small intestine, food mixes with chemicals called enzymes.
The enzymes come from the pancreas and from cells lining the intestine.
The enzymes break down (digest) the food which is taken up (absorbed) into the body.

Some terms explained
Peptic inflammation is inflammation caused by stomach acid. Inflammation may be in the stomach; in the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum),
as acid flows in with food; or in the lower gullet (oesophagus), if acid splashes up to cause 'reflux oesophagitis'.
A peptic ulcer is an ulcer caused by stomach acid. An ulcer occurs where the lining of the gut is damaged and the underlying tissue is exposed.
If you could see inside your gut, an ulcer looks like a small, red crater on the inside lining of the gut.
A stomach ulcer is one type of peptic ulcer. A stomach ulcer is sometimes called a gastric ulcer. (The most common type of peptic ulcer is a duodenal ulcer.)
The rest of this leaflet deals only with stomach ulcers.

What causes stomach ulcers?
Your stomach normally produces acid to help with the digestion of food and to kill germs (bacteria).
This acid is corrosive, so some cells on the inside lining of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum) produce a natural mucous barrier.
This protects the lining of the stomach and duodenum. There is normally a balance between the amount of acid that you make and the mucous defense barrier.
An ulcer may develop if there is an alteration in this balance, allowing the acid to damage the lining of the stomach or duodenum.

This Is What Happens When You Drink a Coffee on an Empty Stomach.
http://positivemed.com/2015/04/07/this-is-what-happens-when-you-drink-a-coffee-on-an-empty-stomach/

The first thing most Americans do in the morning is start the dripper to get in that first cup of joe before heading off to work.
Some people don’t even eat breakfast and just go straight for the mug as they run out of the house.
Sometimes during crunch-times and busy days where lunch or a snack aren’t an option, a person will go for a cup of coffee instead to try to curb hunger and increase energy.
Drinking coffee on an empty stomach, however, can have negative detriments to one’s health.

1. Stomach Acid Increases
Coffee on an empty stomach increases acidity.
This higher level of stomach acid creates problems for heartburn and indigestion throughout the day.
High acidity can eventually lead to severe abdominal issues such as Stomach Ulcers, Heartburn, Irritable bowel syndrome and Acid reflux disease.
Cheaper coffee usually has higher acidity, which can further exacerbate issues.
This is one of the reasons why coffee should be bought for quality over quantity.

http://naturalsociety.com/why-not-to-drink-coffee-on-an-empty-stomach/

When coffee hits an empty stomach, it’s a big shock to our systems.
While the antioxidant properties, derived primarily from chlorogenic acid, are great for overall health and even treating some diseases like colon cancer, they aren’t so wonderful on an empty stomach.
When ‘black gold,’ as some call pure black coffee, hits an empty stomach, it stimulates the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the digestive system.
This causes gastritis in some, and for those who are completely healthy, the coffee is still not without harm.
Hydrochloric acid is used to break down the food, and if you run out during the day, there will be a digestive disturbances during major meals, causing a particular difficulty for the body to dissolve proteins.

The Other Side: Coffee Health Benefits
Proteins that get ‘stuck’ in the digestive system, and are unable to be eliminated properly can cause a host of health issues – ranging from a little bloating and irritable bowels, to a full blown case of colon carcinoma.
Furthermore, when we drink coffee first thing in the morning, it causes a dump of cortisol (otherwise known as the stress hormone) right into our blood stream.
This stress hormone can cause you to crave sugar, think with less clarity, disturb sleep cycles, and over time, even cause other debilitating diseases.

If you want to enjoy the antioxidants of coffee, without the damage of ‘stuck’ proteins and excess cortisol,
simply make sure to eat a healthy breakfast with your cup of Joe, and never imbibe on an empty stomach.

but think of it this way, how many people (including you you dumb assess) learned the dark nasty secrets
that coffee industry is hiding from average uninformed coffee drinker therefore exposing billions of people

and can cause illnesses including nasty forms of cancers.

We know that this truth about coffee industry might hurt your profits but we don't give a fuck about it,
because we think that honest presentation of scientific facts and medical studies about possible very dangerous
side effects drinking coffee might have on particular human is very important to share.
And you can take your greedy dishonest attitude and twisted into a rope and very tightly wrap around your necks

We are not telling people to stop drinking coffee. We are giving them info and facts to know that there is a very dark toxic
way to drink coffee and that they can make informed choices what type of coffee they will drink.

dirty secrets about coffee industry.

302. The Water Footprint Of Your Coffee
http://coffeelands.crs.org/2012/09/302-the-water-footprint-of-your-coffee/

"Since early August, I have published at least one post per week on the relationship between coffee and water resources.
In several of those posts I have made mention of coffee’s “water footprint” without much exploration of the concept.
According to this excellent study, coffee’s water footprint is 140 liters (or 37 gallons) per cup."
The study suggests that in terms of the overall water footprint of coffee, it doesn’t matter very much whether farmers are wet-processing their coffee —
a sequence that involves depulping, fermenting and washing or processing it naturally drying the coffee bean inside the cherry and eliminating altogether the need for water use in the coffee process.

For the overall water need in coffee production, it makes hardly any difference whether the dry or wet production process is applied, because the water used
in the wet production process is a very small fraction (0.34%) of the water used to grow the coffee plant.
Picking up where the previous quote leaves off, the authors explain that the small amount of water used in coffee processing is disproportionately important:
However, the impact of this relatively small amount of water is often significant.
First, it is blue water (abstracted from surface and ground water), which is sometimes scarcely available. Second, the wastewater generated in the wet production process is often heavily polluted.

Many people do like the dark roast but they are not aware that dark roast coffee presents very serious health issues.
Roasts like Italian and French (picture related) should be avoided in order to avoid getting cancer.
Here is why, this is very serious issue but not many coffee drinkers are aware of it.

CARCINOGENS in Burnt Coffee,
(and for those who are not aware carcinogens are cancer causing elements) you can read about it in this article:

http://camanoislandcoffee.com/the-5-dangers-to-avoid-when-purchasing-coffee-5/

Research has shown that if food is burnt or heated excessively then a certain group of carcinogenic substances are released which are known
as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
Once these substances have been consumed by the individual via the burnt food then they also travel into the intestines
and other organs of the human body via the process of blood circulation.
In such cases, these polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons not only cause cancer but also tend to increase toxicity of bone marrow,
suppression of the immune system, reproductive toxicity, liver toxicity as well as cardiovascular toxicity.

COFFEE is known AS ONE OF THE HIGHEST SOURCES OF CARCINOGENS AROUND,
yet something as simple as NOT purchasing burnt coffee beans can drastically reduce this factor.
>>
File: Dark Roast Coffee beans.png (798KB, 600x600px) Image search: [Google]
Dark Roast Coffee beans.png

CARCINOGENS in DARK Burnt Coffee are the same as carcinogens (cancer causing particles) found on burned meat/steaks.

With horror I watch people grilling their meat to achieve those burned charred "grill marks", but those burned grill marks are nothing less than cancer powerhouse.
Funny thing is that those people would never feed those burned charred meat parts to their precious dogs or cats, but they gladly eat themselves.
So with dark roasted coffee there is a very serious WARNING that if we do care not to get cancer we should definitely avoid drinking any coffee brewed with dark roast beans.

The 5 Ways Your Coffee Kills You.
All in all, you can drink coffee and significantly hurt your body or you can drink coffee and actually enjoy a beverage that adds healthful antioxidants and tastes amazing.
I choose healthy coffee.

Coffee is one of the most heavily pesticide sprayed crops.
Much of our coffee comes from South America, and specifically Colombia, and uses pesticides such as heptachlor, chlordane and deiedrin. These pesticides are toxic to our body!

Also toxic molds Mycotoxins growing on coffee beans present health issue, so taking all those hazardous things into consideration don't add to damaging your health
by purchasing & consuming dark roasted coffee beans.

Coffee is one of those things that we don't really need to consume to stay alive.
We need to eat food, we need to drink water but we don't need to drink coffee in order to live.
Coffee is a treat, so educate yourselves & don't unknowingly add this tempting addictive treat to the already abounded number of cancer & other health problems causing products in our diets.
Coffee has some health benefits, but it needs to be consumed with wise approach to it because if you consume coffee grown with tons of toxic chemicals
or coffee infested with toxic molds or dark roasted coffee watch out.

The world of coffee is HUGE. Make sure you’re educated before you make your next coffee purchase.

Acrylamide in Starbucks Columbian
http://wickedcoffees.com/acrylamide-in-starbucks-columbian/

Acrylamide is a subject of ongoing investigations with the FDA. Why? It is a suspected carcinogen.
It tends to form in foods that are overheated when cooked. Most notorious are heavily cooked (as in burned) or fried meats.
But acrylamide is also found in toasted breads and fried potatoes, such as french fries and potato chips, according to Science News.
The FDA study sampled many common products and found acrylamides in roasted almonds, fish fillets, Starbucks Columbian roast, Wasa Crisp bread and Hershey’s Cocoa.
The State of California also has required Starbucks to post a warning in their stores that their coffee contains chemicals (acrylamide) known to cause cancer.
This is not something Starbucks adds the the coffee beans. It is a result of coffee roasting.

Then there is the problem of benzopyrene. According to an article in Wikipedia, benzopyrene is a component of pitch and can be found in coal tar after a forest fire,
in the air after a volcanic eruption, in wood and cigarette smoke and “in burnt foods such as coffee.
Evidence exists to link benzo[a]pyrene to the formation of lung cancer.”
Due to the common practice of burning a dark roast coffee, it behooves those of us that want to enjoy many more years of the brew, to drink roasts that have not been burned.
(BTW, the FDA found more acrylamide in instant coffees than in typical brewed coffees.)

Coffee is a daily routine and ingesting anything possibly carcinogenic several times a day is cause for concern.
Take cigarette smoking, for example. Recurring and consistent exposure leads to increased risk of cancer.

How do you tell if a coffee roast is burned? One way is to drag one of the beans over a white coffee filter.
If it leaves a brown trail, it is burned. Another way is appearance of the bean.
A burned bean is dark brown and very dry, looking much like a cinder.

Coffee can really lower your body pH -- especially if you drink several cups per day -- and disease, especially cancer, thrives in an acid environment.
Caffeine consumption has been linked to breast cancer, and breast lumps have often regressed in women who adopt the caffeine-restricted Minton Diet.
When coffee is roasted, the carcinogen 3,4 benzopyrene is formed. There have also been identified two other possible carcinogens found in coffee.

Many years ago, Professor Brian MacMahon of the Harvard School of Public Health found that the drinking of three cups of coffee a day increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by a factor of nearly three.
He felt that coffee drinking was the cause of 50% of all pancreatic cancers.
In 1981, Dr. Tim Spencer of the St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London validated MacMahon's research. Prior to 1948, the British people drank tea and very little coffee,
whereas after 1948 there was a vast increase in coffee drinking in England. Dr. Spencer plotted the importation of coffee into England between 1948 and 1973.
During that time, the importation of coffee increased by 120%.
Also during that time the death rate from pancreatic cancer in England increased by 50%.

Cancer is not the only issue.
The caffeine in coffee is also a major stimulant of the sympathetic nerve system, and as such can stress your heart to the point of tachycardia.
Moreover, caffeine is an addictive drug from which many severe withdrawal symptoms are proof of physical dependence;
these symptoms include headache, fatigue, drowsiness, poor concentration, irritability, and brain fog.

You guys are really that dumb that you need science to convince you that consuming burned charred foods
is not good for you.
You need science to convince you that burned charred dark roasted coffee should be avoided if you like
to avoid getting cancer from it.

Can't you see the obvious reason why majority of coffee is roasted to dark roast level, it's not because dark roast produces better tasting coffee
than medium roast (or lighter roasts), it's because low quality coffee beans when roasted to medium or lower levels will taste like shit.
So the tricks roasters use is to burn to charr coffee beans to dark roast level and to create this uniformed harsh taste and that way they can sell
low quality coffee beans at normal prices that otherwise they would have to sell at very discounted price.

See if baker can pull this scam, trying to sell burned charred blackened bread at the same price as the properly baked bread.
Baker could not even give that type of bread away for FREE never mind selling it, but coffee roasters can sell burned charred blackened coffee at regular prices.
Or see if restaurant can convince you to eat and pay for burned charred blackened meat.

But coffee roasters are very lucky in this regard because they brainwashed gullible consumers that dark roast burned charred coffee is as good
and as desirable as properly roasted coffee to medium or lower levels and that you should pay for this very sub-standard product the same
price as you are paying for the quality properly roasted coffee beans.

Coffee beans takes on unique flavor while roasting though.. it's very different and only retards need this explained to them.

other blackened foods that you might like would be charred steaks and smoked bbq.. for instance brisket.

These items take on a blackened/burned appearance but are considered delicious by many because of the complex organic compounds that are created by high temperatures in the case of charred steak and smoke in the case of brisket.

If you were going to open a restaurant that was themed around dark colored food items, I would stay away from bread unless you are serving something like classic german pumpernickel.

Classic german pumpernickel is dark like that because it is left in the oven for a very long time and it attains that color because the entire loaf reaches high temperatures and dries out.

You clearly don't know jack shit about what you are talking.

Its not burning. only children like you would call that burning. its reaching a high state of carmelization through out the loaf by reaching high temperatures at which delicious organic compounds are formed.

Only flour in the bread does. But coffee beans do not, they are immune to very high temperatures.

This is very true. Bread will blacken at much lower temperatures. Most bread is baked at about 350 degrees F and will turn into a briquette over a long period of time.

Coffee beans on the other hand are roasted to at least 450 degrees in roasters that get much hotter than a standard oven.

the different temperature level for bread and for coffee is irrelevant in this example,
on top of it bread charred on outside can still have good eatable stuff left inside because of it size,
but small coffee bean is burned charred all the way through because is so small, there is nothing good
nothing that is alive left in burned charred small coffee bean.

>charred bread will taste acrid but charred roasted coffee beans will take on unique flavor

This is true though.

>>8642531
>the different temperature level for bread and for coffee is irrelevant in this example

No it isn't. The organic material that coffee beans are made from can be roasted up to 480 degrees without tasting acrid. Furthermore, the internal temperature of the bean is still quite different from the outside temperature of the bean because the bean is more dense and the roast is a much shorter time span than baking bread.

On top of that, the internal temperature of a loaf of bread is moderated and buffered by a high amount of liquid which will only get as high as 212 F before boiling off, which buffers the internal temperature of a loaf to 212 until i starts to dry out. This is why german pumpernickel is cooked for so long. The dough has to dry out in the oven internally for the temperature to get high enough to brown the inside of the loaf. Special pans are often utilized that help transfer the oven heat into the loaf as well.

Coffee beans and bread loaves are made of entirely different components that react to high temperatures entirely differently. While a loaf of bread can be burnt at 350, coffee can be safely roasted to well about 450 and still not even be burnt.

There is a huge difference between browning, roasting, and burning. Coffee that is drinkable is never burnt.

this is the main true reason why roasters roast burn charr some coffee beans to dark roast level.
\/
>Can't you see the obvious reason why majority of coffee is roasted to dark roast level, it's not because dark roast produces better tasting coffee
than medium roast (or lighter roasts), it's because low quality coffee beans when roasted to medium or lower levels will taste like shit.
So the tricks roasters use is to burn to charr coffee beans to dark roast level and to create this uniformed harsh taste and that way they can sell
low quality coffee beans at normal prices that otherwise they would have to sell at very discounted price.

all burned coffee can be considered extra dark roasted
but coffee doesn't have to be burned to be dark roasted
if it's "burned charred" it's totally blackened, by definition. most dark roasts are just a darker shade of brown

I'm not going to read your posts on burnt bread because the second you equated selling dark roast coffee to burnt bread, you invalidated any other point you might have made in thoes posts

>dark roast coffee tastes good to many
because of brainwashing especially in the espresso or expresso coffee circles.
Dark roast has a heavy bitter taste.
As espresso usually is served pretty strong, people expect the bitter taste.
Most bars serve 70/30 or 80/20 (natural/dark roast) blends. If the roast is made of the cheaper robusta bean, the coffee shop can save money.
But, you can make an excellent espresso from 100% natural roast arabica beans.
People will notice the difference, even though they're not conscious what it is.

When I talk about a light roast, I'm thinking of what is called a City roast in roaster's terminology.
This is the lightest you can roast a bean to keep maximum origin flavor (you taste more of the bean's taste & less of the flavors from roasting).
Any lighter, and the coffee mostly tastes grassy and sour. Sour flavors diminish as beans roast.

In my mind, a dark roast (for me) is what is called Full City in roaster talk.
There are darker roasts above Full City but before the beans ignite in the roaster (French and Vienna).
To me, these don't exist. I find them acrid, bitter, and lacking any of the interesting flavors I source good coffee beans to experience.

French Roast:
At French Roast level sugars are heavily caramelized (burned) and degraded. This occurs roughly around 460-470 degrees F.
At this stage, the woody bean structure is carbonizing as the seed continues to expand and loose mass.
The body of the resulting cup will be thinner and lighter as the aromatic compounds,
oils, and soluble solids are burned out of the coffee and rise up to fill your house with smoke. Second crack is well finished at this point.

Burnt:
By this point, roughly 470-480 degrees F, it’s too late. You’ve roasted the coffee too dark and will only end up with a bitter cup of charcoal water.
Heat being applied for too long has obliterated all of the volatile compounds that might have added flavor and sweetness.

Does anyone use a stainless steel press? I used to make coffee upon waking, drink some, then keep it in a stainless tumbler until after I'd showered, but I noticed that the tumbler quickly built up a residue and all my coffee tasted the same and I;m afraid the press will have the same problem.

I don't care so much about the heat retention properties of double-walled steel, but I'd rather get something with no plastic bits.

Here is more detail on degree of roast from a home roasting site / green coffee bean purveyor: http://www.sweetmarias.com/library/content/use-all-five-senses-determine-degree-roast-0
If that link is broken in the future, a quick search for degree of coffee roast should yield a good explanation.
This is all important, because one person's dark roast could be another's light. Moving to use this more standardized language described in the link, empirically,
I find most City to City+ roasts still fairly sour as espresso shots.
That said, sourness varies with bean age, bean origin, and growing season to growing season.
We are talking about a crop here, similar to wine vintages."

Any container for storage should always be airtight. Even if it has valves.
The idea of adding valves is that it releases CO2 in one direction, outward. To release pressure and clean the air of degrading stuff, so to speak.
If it's not airtight then the valve would serve no purpose whatsoever.

Personally I just go with airtight jars for long term. While just tightly sealing bags that the beans come in for short term daily brew that empties quickly from use.

The amount of caffeine in those things is crazy low. That's why it's labelled homeopathic.
And there's a good reason for it. Caffeine is rather insoluble in anything you'd want in your nose.
I know for personal experience making my own up that only around 2mg/ml actually mixes in tops. Any more than that will be loose and clog up the sprayer.
Seeing as it's around 0.1ml per spray usually, that's like

The waking jolt from it is nice, but not powerful. More from the flavor/smell feeling and slight burn than any actual stimulation.

That's caffeine anyway. I don't know why in the HELL you'd want to snort amino acids and whatever 'herb' remains that shit has.

>>
>>8645803
Bitter. Moreso than coffee by power, but not by volume. Like potently bitter, but vague.
It's easy to ignore the flavor when diluted or in large amounts.
That has lead to many people mixing up powders with others. Like supplement users accidentally downing 3g caffeine instead of creatine. Very dangerous. Always label these things well.

I'd go sublingual usually. ~100mg straight powder under the tongue. Swallow remains after saliva builds up for a few minutes. Pretty fast onset, just a few minutes, several hours (4-8?) duration just like oral.

Weighing into capsules works well for portability. Ton cheaper than premade pills. Most valid use.

Snorting is weird. It feels stronger but is not very effective. Like there's actual euphoria, however weak. But most of it just clumps quickly and drips down the throat instead. It's the only real recreational route, but not worth it anyway.

If I were to add it to a drink like water, I'd just drink coffee instead. But I suppose it could be used where water is required, like fiber supplements or whatever.

Vaporizing it is just plain fucktarded, but SCIENCE must happen. So yeah. Heavy on the heart, tastes terrible, largely insoluble in pg/vg for standard ecigs, difficult to work with for dry vaping, clumps up and burns easy which makes it taste worse.

Overall it doesn't have much value. Decent for staving off caffeine dependence. Certainly easier to taper.
>>
>>8645877
Oh yeah, snorting only lasts like 30-60 minutes tops, throat drip aside.
Vaporizing lasts too damn long by feeling, but I never timed and only did it twice.

And back on coffee as a proper cooking topic. I only ever brew coffee as french pressed fine grounds. That powder in the dregs is the best. Like really.

Smoking Coffee: A Dumb New Trend?
http://www.livescience.com/44483-smoking-coffee-trend.html

Enrich your coffee experiences faggots and get familiar with new trends (you don't have to do it)
but be at least aware of them so you don't sound stupid reacting to those who post pictures of people snorting coffee.
Or smoking coffee or snorting coca powder

I knew an old fat neckbeard that claimed to get high from smoking store bought poppy seeds, he'd pack a homemade bong full of seeds and start smoking up, smelled terrible.

He's probably reading this right now.

>that pic

I was talking about the poppy seeds in the bottle, they wash those a few times...really stupid to smoke. If you can get full dried pods like your pic it still wouldn't work, brewing it in a tea is the only option with the pods.

Just got my first Keurig. What varieties are best? I'm really digging Tully Hawaiian Blend, and Green Mountain Dark Magic.

I love coffee but it gives me serious jitters and shits ;_;

I had that too and just kept drinking and even a bit more until I got over it physically. I went back to the amount I want to drink a day and I don't have jitters now.

I get that increasing your caffeine intake can cause this, but will the heart palpitations go if I keep drinking coffee and get my body used to it? Because it's scary as shit dude, but caffeine is so useful
