is that objectively worse than just salt, pepper, and garlic?

whenever i make steaks my roommates insist i put premade steak spice on them. i dont hate the taste of it, but i dont remember the last time i had a steak seasoned with just salt pepper and maybe garlic. are we doing it wrong?

Tough to say without seeing the seasoning. Usually fresh ingredients are better though.

It also depends on your cut of meat. Choice sirloin is a lot different than prime ribeye. If I'm eat a crap steak I will use A1 steak sauce.
