Because American food companies are really afraid of trying something new, and food tech is really behind that of the Japanese and Europeans.
Calbee, which is probably the most innovative of the Japanese majors, expanding rapidly in the U.S. is probably much bigger threat than Frito-Lay, Kellogg's, P&G and other American incumbents realize.
