There's more uses for scotch than sipping. I personally have an Islay that I don't care much for straight, but that adds a fantastic touch of smoke to a cocktail when you rinse a glass with it.

If you want an interesting drink that uses Fernet as a base spirit, try something like what I'm having now. I call it the Abgrund.

1 oz fernet (I used Fernet-Vallet, but you can use Branca or whatever you choose)
3/4 oz cinnamon syrup
1/2 oz. Angostura bitters
1/2 oz dry sherry
1/2 oz lemon juice
Shake, strain, serve on the rocks, garnished with a lime wedge.

That kind of pic makes me want to enjoy whisky but I just don't.
Weird that I love gin when most people just see turpentine in it, but I can't for the life of me enjoy a whisky, no matter how good I know it is supposed to be. Same with cognac and most aged spirits but rum.

Whisky is a drink you have to adjust to. There's a lot to it, and that first stage where it's just firewater is a tricky one to get past, but you do get used to it and that's when it really starts opening up. Especially considering how different every style is; bourbon is sweeter and more "woody", scotch comes in six notably different styles from different regions of Scotland, you've got japanese and canadian which borrow heavily from scotch, and the green labelled bottle at the front of my pic is a welsh whisky which is utterly unlike any other one I've ever had.

At the same time, you like what you like, man. It doesn't matter what you appreciate, as long as you truly appreciate something. Stick with your gin if that's your jam, I'm sure you could tell me what you love about it just like I have with whisky and I'd still not be a fan of it.

There's this grill I've been fucking for the past couple weeks but never formaly had a date with her and so I invited her to come over and cook with me tonight and then watch a movie. I stopped drinking, but I still have three bottles of this godawful shit rolling around in one of my crisper drawers because I was raised too frugal to throw them out. I bought them on sale thinking they were a hard cider, but theyre just disgusting apple flavored ale that caused horrible heartburn and acid reflux.
I keep thinking maybe I can use them in cooking somehow, like apple-flavored beer biscuits, or some apple-ale dessert thing or some bullshit like that... I really should just toss them so I can have more room for my vegetables.

Depends what you're cooking. Most girls will drop their pants for champagne or prosecco, but it sounds like you're well past the pants-dropping stage. If you're cooking chicken, fish or other white meat, go for a white wine. Red meats or strong flavours, go for a red.

Still, bubbly is a winner if you want to score some points.

How do I not go through a bottle a night?

I don't think I'm an alcholic since I can go weeks without alcohol, but I can't make a bottle last more than 2 nights for the life of me. Just buy the more expensive shit so my inner poorfag will force me to stop?

Is it just as juniper heavy? I use the classic for mixing to impart some gin flavor to a cocktail, but I use it because it's so heavy juniper. I use floral or citrusy gins for everything where gin in the main character.

I use Appleton White for my mojitos, Myers for classic dark rum drinks, Captain Morgan Tattoo for my rum and cokes, and Kraken for a spiced straight. Out of Tattoo though, it and the Appleton White are surprisingly hard to find where I am.

When I can get it, Rhum JM is my go-to, but in a state with 4 right angle borders, that's not always an option. I really like Cruzan Black Strap, too. It's really funky and molassesy

Well it's not the burn itself I dislike (although it is what I don't like about cognac), but more that long lasting aftertaste. I'm really not implying it is the same, but it gives me the same feeling as when I had to suck out gas from a motorcycle tank to another. It lingers for a long time and doesn't make me come back for more, I really prefer the clean, crisp taste of a good gin. I'll keep trying whiskies as I have several real enthusiasts around me, maybe it'll change over time (already 33 tho).
