I had this for the first time a few weeks ago and it was not something I enjoyed. I only tried it cause I heard so much about it before and was curious in an Indonesian restaurant. My Indo friend later said that he had them in his garden but no one in the family would eat them so they no longer grow them. Apparently something that if you grow up eating you'll love it.

Sometimes I use it sparingly in a stir fry or something

It makes a good soup, and it's delicious stir fried with pork in black bean sauce. The bitterness is a great foil for fat. So it's good against fatty foods like pork or eggs. But I understand that the bitter taste might not be everyone's cup of tea. I love it.
