Let's say I want to make my own yoghurt regularly, every week or two. Can I just keep re-using the last 50-100g of each batch to start the next, or is there a limit to it?

thats fine with me.
That is called backslopping. It's encouraged.

probably fine, but i would avoid chaining it more than once because of Streptococcus lactis, but I'm far from an expert.

I did this 3 years ago and I don't recommend it. I got food poisoning really bad and I ended up getting hospitalized because my digestive system was shutting down. I used the last 1/4th of the yoghurt to make the next batch for about 4 months and it had its own unique flavour after a while which I liked but come to find out it was actually a strand of bacteria the doctors couldn't identify. They said its highly likely I accidentally bred it myself, scary thought in my opinion.

Damn, glad you made it. 4 months - how many successive batches was that?
