For macaroni, Barilla wins just on the basis of their die cut. They have some fine ridges that spiral along the macaroni, adding to its rigidity so it holds its shape better without getting smushed. It might also help holding a sauce by some miniscule amount. Most companies use ridges on shells, penne, manicotti, and other pasta, but not on macaroni.
